Ever since i've started my period, I have
had irregular periods. I didnt think
much of it though, because I heard that
periods may not become regular for about 2
yrs. Well, i'm now 17 yrs. Old and
unfortunately I am having these extremely
long periods (2wks+) and my doctor put me
on provera pills for 10 days to stop the
bleeding altogether, and then suggested
birth control pills. So now i'm taking
these birth control pills called desogen
and I started taking them on sunday july
17th and its more than a week later and
i'm still bleeding, my doctor said that
the pills would regulate my cycle and I
know its only been a little over a week
but its hot and I wanna go swimming
without any worries. I'm not even sure
if these pills are supposed to stop the
bleeding before it regulates the cycle.
I'm so confused :?
Let me know something????
Any replies would help

Wow, you poor girl thats a lot of
bleeding. Bc pills are definately
supposed to regulate your cycle and
control it. Thats the reason I went on it
three years ago becasue I was having two
periods a month. I have not heard of the
brand you are on, but if it continues to
not stop the bleeding, talk to your doc
again and ask to try another brand. If
the pills are not working after awhile,
ask about the depo shot, its a bc shot
that doesnt allow you to get your period,
even though there might be some spotting
occasionally. You would have to get the
shot every three months. Hope this helped
and good luck!

Wait at least 3 cycles, your periods
should become shorter. It takes a while
for the hormones to kick in and to
regulate you cycle.

I never stop bleeding is what I am trying
to get out. I stopped for a couple of
days, while on the provera pills but as
soon as you stop taking the provera pills
you start to bleed again. So how can I
wait 3 cycles if I never stop bleeding??I
just don"t get it!!! Are the birth
control pills (desogen) supposed to stop
the bleeding or what? Or am I supposed to
be bleeding continuously until it just
starts to regulate? Its like i'm on a
never ending menstrual cycle!!!
when yall first started taking birth
control pills on the first day of your
period, how long did it take for your
period to
stop??????...................Help

I take orth-lo... I don't think you
should be constantly bleeding... I also
know that on orth-lo, you start the bc
pills (the active ones) after your period;
don't know if that's a difference in
brands however.

I have taken a few different brands and
all of them have said to start it the
sunday after your period. As for the
bleeding...I would definately talk to your
doctor again because non stop bleeding is
not normal and none of us here are
doctors... If your doc doesn't suggest
anything new, maybe get anothers opinion.
