I am 25 yrs. Old and had many addictions,
I quit doing drugs years ago and the last
2 yrs. I began drinking large amounts of
alcohol. I assumed it was ok because it
is legal and I just wanted have fun, I
gained weight, became unmotivated and
depressed. I have been sober for 2 weeks
and still feel depressed and anxious. Is
this from the past alcohol abuse and will
go away or do I need some professional
help?

If u can quit drugs by yourself, than u
can quit drinking...Its all about personal
motivation and how u want to be seen...I'm
sure if u drank alot u will begin to have
some type of withdrawls..Hopefully u have
a strong support
sytem(friend,gf,family,etc)good luck

I am also trying to quit drinking. I am
26 and have gained weight and lost
motivation. Alcohol is controlling my
life and I hate it. I want to keep
drinking but know I shouldn't. It is a
struggle for me. Good luck.

Jcssc2…
thanks, that was me, I wanted to keep
drinking more than I wanted to quit. I
just wanted the bad stuff to stop. I
would open my eyes in the morning and the
first thought in my head was, “when can
I start drinking?”
i was miserable if I didn’t drink, I
couldn’t stand the way I felt. And it
was miserable when I did. I always drank
too much. I never had enough, I never
felt drunk enough.
If you can quit, just walk away from that
stuff by saying I quit, and stay away from
it, my hat’s off to you.

you are depressed because you dont know
what its like to be without alcohol. I
mean you arent used to going more then 2
weeks without it (so it seems) just give
your self a lil while longer. Maybe in
the mean time go out with some friends to
a movie, to a coffee shop. Somewhere
where there is no alcohol involved. Get
your mind out of the alcohol and onto
something new. Get a hobby. Join some
sports. Just get out and have fun.

My friend used a drug called campral. To
get rid of his alcoholic habits. Though
it wasn't the drug alone but a proper
rehabilitation program advised by his
doctor and that drug was only a part of
it. :)

I Am Alot Better Posted: 08-20-05 21:24pm
I realized the only reason I wanted to
drink is because I was working in an adult
entertainment club since I was 17, I am
definately out of patience for that feild
and now I am sober and a full time massage
therapist. Well I still go out once in a
while and have a few drinks but I am not
drinking at work since I quit dancing. I
started working out, living a healthy
lifestyle and no longer depressed! It
took a couple of months to regain my
sanity but I feel alot better and happier.

Mindy…
what great news. One of the smartest
things a person can do is change unhealthy
playpens and playmates.
I am very happy for you, you nor anyone
else need flush their lives down the
crapper that is active alcoholism or
addition.
Stay in touch, and let us know how things
are going for you.
Your friend on this long strange trip,

How Do You Win the Fight Posted: 05-13-06 19:57pm
I am heartened to read the posts here as
it helps me feel not quite so alone. I
have been drinking regularly for a year or
more (6-7 nights a week) and though I want
to stop - I don't want to put te effort
forth. It gets to the time that I want a
drink and I don't seem to win that fight
with myself. I have been to some meetings
but it is not my thing - how do you do it?
I mean get yourself to stop doing what
you know is making you depressed and
unhealthy?

i am alot younger than you but I have had
family members stop drinking. You are
going to feel like this, but you can do
it. Just try to do new things like
hobbies you like doing, it will help from
keeping you depressed. Or go to the
doctor and tell them you are feeling
depressed and explain you have stopped
drinking. I am sure they would help you
