It Won't Hurt
It will not hurt your baby!!! However, if you feel you are pregnant you should discontinue using the pill, and wait about a week to see if you get your period, if not, then take a pregnancy test. The hormons in the pill cause you not to get your period, and when you stop, your body doesn't get the hormon and you will either get your period or not. Good luck!

There are some brands that do not, because women stopped taking them thinking they may be pregnant had sex and got pregnant then.

I was on ovcon35 and took them for 2 weeks after getting pregnant because I didnt know. My doctor said they wouldnt harm the baby. I guess it depends on how long you take them and the type of hormones.

"i didn’t know that I was pregnant and continued taking my pills. Will the hormones hurt my baby?
Although there is no conclusive evidence that a brief exposure to the artificial hormones contained in hormonal birth controls will cause harm to an unborn child, it is generally advised that you stop using this type of birth control if a pregnancy is suspected."

I have a quick question...

Don't doctors require a urin test to determin you are pregnant before they give you a perscription for the pill?

Hi pocket angel,

i have been on the pill several times in my life, and never had to do a pregnancy test. I can't remember if they ask whether there is a possibility that you may be pregnant.

A couple of weeks ago, I went to the doctor and he prescribed me high dosage medication that you should not take when you are pregnant. When I said that I was ttc, he simply said "well, just try not to whilst you are on these tablets" I did some further research and found that there was another drug available that wouldn't harm if I was pregnant. I was really angry that the doctor did not give me more support than that.

I now realise that if you want something you must ask. If you are going on the pill and are concerned that you may be pregnant, I would insist on a urine/blood test from your doctor.

I hope that this helps.
Xx

look ladies I hate to burst your bubble but the pill ***can*** hurt the baby. I thought everyone knew this. This is fact. Maybe certain brands are less harmful, I do not know, but I know the pill can hurt a baby. Considering the pill has caused miscarriages--i would say that is harmful. What do you consider harm? I find it hard to believe your dad is an obgyn as any obgyn knows the pill can harm your baby.

ok, to everyone's question, I am on ortho tri-cyclen and for everyone's information, I have my insert that I get with my pill pack every month. It reads as follows:

"do not continue to take oral contraceptives until you are sure you are not pregnant, but continue to use another method of contraception. There is no conclusive evidence that oral contraceptive use is associated with an increase in birth defects, when taken inadvertently during early pregnancy. Previously a few studies had reported that oral contraceptives might be associated with birth defects, but these findings have not been seen in more recent studies. Nevertheless, oral contraceptives or any other durgs should be used in pregnancy unless clearly necessary and prescribed by your doctor. You should check with your doctor about risks to your unborn child of any medication taken during pregnancy."

Basically, it is saying that it can happen, but recently according to the "studies", it has not been happening. And there was a time, where I missed a pill and thought I may have been pregnant, and my doctor told me that the pill would be ok to take at that time until I found out my period was actually late (which I am fine! :))also, I know of two people who were on the pill and got pregnant, they obviously had no idea they were pregnant until they finished taking their pills for the month, to know they were late on their period, and guess what, they have healthy babies! So, I don't believe the pill is harmful in early pregancy, that doesn't mean it isn't harmful in full term pregnancies. Hope the insert helps!

I think bottom line, if it says to discontinue then it must not be good for the baby....

Well heres my advice, get off it, and use a condom. That way you wont hurt a potential baby, and that way you wont get pregnant while nto on bc (this is unless you are ttc)
