I am 24,and from nj. I do not medical
insurance,nor do I have a regular doctor.
I need to find a psychiatrist for my
depression which has been getting worse
and worse, and has been ongoing for
roughly 7-8 months. Should I just pick
one out of the phonebook and go? At this
point, I am willing to pay out of pocket
for medicine and doctors visits, if it
will stop what I have been going through
for nearly a year. Can anyone refer me to
a good psychiatrist in ocean or monmouth
county (sliding payscale preferred, but
not required).

Inability to Pay For Doc Posted: 08-01-05 15:35pm
My daughter in law has the same problem.
Of course you want your kids to have the
medical care they need but they wanted to
do this alone. I suggested they contact
their family doc and get a reference to
the mental health clinic (they live in
loiusianna) and she did. He got her into
the clinin they sees patients according to
their ability to pay. Her original appt
was over the phone. At least a phone
call from a doc is better than nothing at
all. They evaluated her according to a
mental health questionaire which they
would have done on her first visit, and
she was then shuttled to the next appt
appropriate for her diagnosis. This may
sound so clinical, but when you have had
post-partum depression for 5 months and no
help, it was like a light bulb for her.
Iot took her about 6 days to get her first
real appt but before that she was in line
for all type of help before the appt it
necessary. It took a load off both her
mind, my mond and my sons mind. She is
now seeing a doc, on meds and getting
better. All for about $30 a month.
