Hemangioma

I have a hemangioma and I am interested in ways of treating it. I have heard that there is a laser ipl which is used to make the redness disappear and I am going to check it out later this month. I want to know if there is anyone who has had another treatment or has heard of anything better than ipl, as I am tired of experiencing new lasers which are not completely effective. Thanks.

Ipl Treatment

Hi KellyR,

Heamangiomas can be difficult to treat depending on their colour and depth. Older heamangiomas tend to be darker in colour because the vessels are larger in diameter. This makes them tricky to remove by light-based techniques since the amount of total energy required is quite large. Also, the darker colour can be more difficult to target specifically!

However, there are some IPL systems which can help to reduce the 'visiblity' of the stain. If you are lucky you might be left with a much lighter stain which is easier to hide with make-up.

If you are not so lucky your stain will still be very visible!

I suggest you try one of the 'better' IPL systems for a number of sessions. If you do not see a significant difference after 4 or 5 sessions, stop the procedure. You will probably not achieve a better result.

The 'better' devices must have higher energy outputs and longer pulse durations. You need both of these factors to ensure a thermal reaction in your vessels.

Good luck.

Vlad.
