Can't Stop Cravings, Some Advice Please Posted: 08-03-05 05:52am
I'm a recovering anorexic (recently posted
a message regarding extreme weight gain)
and I have starting introducing a number
of different foods into my diet. However,
this past few days I have been having
cravings for strange foods, some of which
I never even liked before (i'm a
vegetarian and have been eating meat!).
The thing is, I can't seem to stop eating
now, I mean its only 11:45 and i've eaten
more today than I normally would in two
weeks. I've eaten half a loaf of bread
alone, along with chocolates, biscuits,
you name it.
Its really starting to scare me now as I
feel I can't stop and i'm so scared of
gaining loads of weight.
Please tell me if this is normal and if it
will eventually stop, or calm down. Its a
real torture as i'm still feeling
extremely guilty when eating and its
beginning to make me very depressed.
Please someone give me advice.

I'd say you are just fine. You're body if
recovering and it needs all the nutirents
it can get to make up for the loss it had.
If I were you I would keep eating. I'm
sure the cravings and the amount you eat
will go down when you return to your more
normal body weight (that is if you lost a
lot of weight before).

I agree, it's very normal. Your body is
so relieved not to be starved any more.
Maybe you need iron & b12, so that's
why you crave meat. I'd advise you to cut
out, as much as possible, 'empty' calories
(junk food & sweets) at this point,
because you want your body to heal &
it needs nutrition. So let's say you
crave sweets, then eat a peanut butter
& jelly sandwich instead of cookies or
cake, so that you get some healthy food in
you.
If it makes you feel better, there are
scientific studies of starving people ~
prisoners or people in wars ~ and they all
go crazy with eating after they starve.
So you're not weird or piggish, just
getting well. Give yourself a break and
don't be scared. Your body will
eventually realize that it will get food
regularly & then you can eat normally
& feel full. It happened to me!
