Pain In the Left Upper Part of Stomach Just Below the Ribs.. Posted: 08-05-05 07:40am
Can anyone help / advise what this could
be? I've started feeling a weird pain in
my stomach, in the upper part on the left
side just below the ribs and in the
same-ish region in my back. I started
about 3 days ago, first day it hurt all
day, and now it's not too bad in the
morning but gets worse throughout the day,
and it's quite bad in the evenings. It
usually starts hurting stronger once i've
eaten.
Not sure what it is, haven't been lifting
anything heavy, and haven't eaten anything
unusual either.
Please if anyone may know what it could be
let me know whether it could be anything
serious or I shouldn't worry and wait for
it to go.
It hurts pretty bad though in the evenings
and it's not very nice, not that any pain
would be....
Please help...Thank you.

Pain Under Left Ribs Posted: 08-08-05 15:25pm
Hello,
i have had the same thing for about 3
years. My doctor told me she suspected
that is splenic flexure syndrome or built
up air in the upper diaphragm. This is
due to anxiety, stress, worry, or panic.
I have all of the above. The pain is
usually a dull aching that is under my
left ribs and extends through to my back.
I feel better when I lying down on my
back. That area of the abdomen is the
upper part of your gi (gastrointestinal)
tract. It makes sense that air could get
trapped there. As long as you don't have
any swelling in that area, it's probably
the same thing that I have. To me, the
best way to describe it is like a balloon
trapped under my ribs. Does this help at
all?

It does feel like lumps, but I think that
is just air bubbles. When i'm under
stress or something, it seems to get
worse. That's why I think it's anxiety
related. If it were something really
bad, then it would get progressively
worse.

I know what you mean about your stomach...
I have been suffering for 2 months now.
After a month I finally seen the doctor
about my stomach. It's a pain almost in
the middle, right below the ribs, a little
more to the left hand side than the
middle.. It's not like a stomach ache,
it's actual pain. Not only is it causing
me pain, but my appetite isn't the same,
for some reason I feel nausiated, and well
embarressing to say, but my bowels seem to
be acting up. Before those symptons when
it was just the pain, my doctor put me on
these pills (nexo..something) and told me
to stop smoking. But, the pills didn't
help, so now I'm not sure.. but if it's
some kind of sist or something, they go
away on there own dont they?

Left Rib Pain Posted: 08-31-07 07:21am
I don't have the other symptoms you
describe - nausea, BM changes. I have
just had a constant dull ache under my
left ribs. It's been 5 years now that
I've had it. It hasn't gotten worse. It
does flair up when I'm under stress. I
can tell that it's air because the pain
feels like gas and it slowly goes away
until it becomes dull again. Strange
situation.
I hope you feel better,
Crystal

Could be an ulcer. *shrug* there are many
things it could be. See your doctor.
