Q: Should I Stop Taking Birth Control?

About a month ago, my boyfriend and I had unprotected sex. Now my period is a week late. I took a home pregnancy test and it was negative, but I am still wondering if I may be pregnant. I have read about birth control causing birth defects and miscarriages, so I was wondering if I should stop taking it until I can be tested at the doctor's office...If anyone has anything...Let me know...Please!!!

Right now having sex is not an issue, because my boyfriend and I have broken up so sex is not an option (with him or anyone else) for a while.

What kind of birth control using? If you are on the pill, usually if you stop taking the pill, it prompts a period right? Maybe you should stop taking it and see if your period comes. If you are really concerned, go to your doctor and get a blood test done, they can advise you on what to do!

I'm on the pill....And I normally go off for the week of my period (the info packet said you don't have to take the reminder pills)...I have been off of them for the past week...And nothing except for some spotting the first couple of days.

That has happened to me too...On the pill and no period...

And no I am not pregnant and wasn't. The pill made me feel real pregnant it can give you the symptoms...Like sore boobs, cramping stomach/abdomin, headaches, change in taste, nausea, etc. I had all those symptoms.

Most of the time if you are taking the pill and don't miss any you won't get pregnant. There are really slim chances. Also, for the first few years you take the pill it can mess with your periods, i've been told by my family who are all nurses. Like they can be heavy at first but it gradually gets lighter and sometimes you won't have a period...

I would suggest though asking your doctor about it if you are really worried because he's/she's the only one that can tell you for sure
