Maybe Someone Can Help Me?? Posted: 08-09-05 14:09pm
I started taking prozac about 5 weeks ago
for ocd and depression. It has been
working very well, and for the first time
in years, I feel like myself again. But
it's making me soooooooooo tired. I wake
up tired and i'm yawning all day. All I
can think about is when I get to get back
in bed (not because of the depression, but
because I literally can't keep my eyes
open!!) I pass out by 9pm every night and
sleep nearly 12 hours a night. Has
anyone experienced this with prozac or any
other ssri? My mom said she had the same
problem with prozac and added wellbutrin
and it was great. I'm a little hesitant
to taken more medication, so if anyone has
any other suggestions i'd love to hear
them! Thanks!!

Yes, I Take This Now.. Posted: 08-09-05 14:15pm
Lexapro, a newish drug that is the same as
prozac but without the side effects. It
work's to make me happier and I feel great
about life! However doesn't cure anxiety
or agoraphobia, which is my main
problem.
I would suggest you speak with your doc
about it :)

Thanks for your reply! I had actually
asked my dr about lexapro, but it's not
approved to treat ocd, which is my biggest
problem. He thinks the depression is
actually caused by the obsessions and
intrusive thoughts. I'm hesitant to stop
the prozac since it's almost completely
relieved me of my ocd, but it just makes
me so incredibly tired, which is going to
be an even bigger problem for me when I
start grad school in a couple of weeks.
:? Does anyone else have any
suggestions??

If you are like me-- it is a chemical
imbalance of seratonan. And prozac
changes the amount of seratonan, which is
also used for sleep or lack of sleep that
our bodies need. I used celexa which is
also seratonin inhibitor. And I felt
great and dint need as much sleep. I dont
know if high seratonan is what makes us
need more sleep of visa versa. Maybe
talk to dr about lower dose.
By the way the celexa made me feel like a
teenager again and I was so happy. I
felt great for the first time in like 30
something years--dint hardly want to sleep
at all.

Hi there! Five weeks is not a lot of
time, you might give it a little bit
longer or talk to the dr about decreasing
the amount you take and slowly working up
to that point. Meds work differently on
everyone and in every situation. You can
also get a second opinion from another
Dr., you have that right!
Good luck on grad school, I am sure you
will do great! Let us know how you do or
even if you just need someone to talk to,
we are here for you!

Thanks to everyone for your replies! I
really appreicate your advice. I have an
appointment scheduled with my Dr. For
next wednesday, so hopefully he will have
some recommendations, like decreasing the
dose (although i'm only taking 20mg) or
maybe taking it at a different time of
day. I'm kind of worried he's going to
want to switch me to a different med
because, tiredness aside, the prozac has
been pretty good for me. Like I said
earlier, my mom said he may suggest adding
wellbutrin to combat the sleepiness. Has
anyone ever tried this combination? Is
it worth it? Or would I be better off
trying something different like celexa,
paxil or zoloft?

I dont remember if it was the respidol or
wellbutrin that made my son a "zombie" I
made him quit taking them.
