Swollen Gland Present For 9 Straight Years Posted: 08-09-05 20:51pm
Hi, new to the board.
I had a co-worker ask me about a problem
he has. He thinks I am some sort of
medical expert because I know a thing or
two about some diseases. Flattering, but
not quite correct! I told him to just go
to a doctor but he doesn't like doctors
(like phobia scared of them) so I said i'd
try to find something out.
Anyway, the story goes that this co-worker
has had what he thinks is a swollen lymph
node under his armpit for what he said has
been the past 9 years. Began when he was
13, now he's 22. He said that it occured
sometime after he had an infected ingrown
toenail and just never went away. Also,
that it feels about the size of a small
potato and was that size when it first
appeared and hasn't fluctuated in size.
Along with that, he said it is squishy and
moveable, somewhat tender if messed with.
I, knowing only a bare minimum of
possibilities such as lymphoma and
infection, asked if he has had any other
symptoms. He says no, gaining weight if
anything, full appetite, good energy, no
night sweats, itching, increased
occurances of colds, flus, sore throats,
other infections, etc. Nothing else
besides this swollen gland.
