Ortho Tri-cyclen Lo. Did I Start Taking It Right? Important! Posted: 08-10-05 00:30am
Okay. I was really urgent in starting my
birth control (ortho tri cyclen lo). The
doctor said I should most likely do the
"sunday start" but I got too impatient and
did the "day 1 start". I read the
directions and there was no difference
really. Except for .. Well, one you
start the sunday after you start your
period and the other one you start the day
you start. Well, I took my first pill.
And, you are supposed to take the first
white pill in the pack, right? I read in
some other forum that one lady started
where her pack had the "tuesday" on it.
And, she skipped all of the pills before
that. Me, on the other hand, just started
on the first pill you are supposed to
take. I dont know what kind of birth
control this lady had .. She didnt
specify. But, it got me thinking if I
might have taken it wrong.
Also, what happens if, when I get to my
"reminder pills", i'm not on my period?
That's when you're supposed to be on your
period but what if my period is off? What
should I do?
I'm really terrified about this. And, any
help would be soooooo beneficial! Thank
you guys so much!

No, you started taking them correctly.
And since you started on day 1 rather than
sunday, you're (theoretically) protected
once you take your first pill. What that
other lady did was wrong.
You should have your period about 2-3 days
after you start taking your inactive
(green) pills. You are still protected
during this time. If, for some reason,
your period doesn't come during this time
(too early or late) or if it's just some
spotting, just keep taking your pills as
directed. It should work itself out in
1-3 months.
