Hot Flashes
Posted: 08-10-05 17:10pm

Hello, I am new to this forum but I am doing a little research for my sleep-deprived mother. She is 50 years old and has been experiencing nightly hot-flashes, awaking her during the night up to a dozen times! She complains that she'll wake up in a hot sweat, strip off her sheets so that she can get back to sleep, only to be awakened a little later because she is cold. I was wondering if anyone else here as experienced this, and if there is anything my poor mom can do to rid of this nusiance or at least alleviate the symptoms. Thanks.

Banger,

i'm 38 years old and have been through menopause because radiation but just wanted to say that hot flashes can be extremely troublesome. There is a lot of information out there but it's just like anything else - different things work for different people. My flashes don't so much soak my clothing anymore (it just feels like my head is so hot it is going to blow off--lol) and sleep with the airconditioning on 64 degrees f, the ceiling fan on, as well as another fan blowing on me. I flip covers on and off all night. Some of the things i've been told and read to help combat the hot flashes and other symptoms of menopause are but not limited to:

reduce or eliminate caffeine, take vitamin e, there are many herbs that suposedly help, soy, hormone replace therapy (i caution this one without lots of research on the patients part), diet changes

there are so many things that may or may not help that I can't possibly list them all here. I know that I sleep with my hair up and that actually helps some. I've been having the flashes for over a year now and hope they stop one day!!

My best suggestion would be for you or your mom to do a google search of menopause or menopause remedies and start researching and trying things. Good luck!!!

Soy isoflavones can reduce the incidence of hot menopausal hot flashes, and can also help maintain a healthy prostate gland in men. Soy isoflavones including genistein have a weak estrogenic effect in the body that can be either agonistic or antagonistic. In other words, phytoestrogens can either mimic or block the effect of estrogen.

Hi, I found a hrt alternative which is really natural. It is a hrt bread and it really helped me. I was on pills before and I had a lot of side effects but this is all natural and has relieved so many of the symptoms. Someone is selling it on ebay called the hrt alternative bread. Check it out. I hope my advice helps you - menopause can be such an awful time.
