Q: Advice About the Pill

I have been taken the pill microgynon 50 for almost 3 months. As I was going away to a festival a couple of weeks ago I decided to just continue with the next pack of pills so that I wouldn't have a period. Halfway through the week that should have been my 7 day off time, I left the pills at home when I went to the festival for four days. I thought since I would have taken enough pills to still be protected if I continued to not take them and count this week as my week off, I decided to do that. Then I proceeded to take the rest of this pack as normal. Is this safe? And should I take the next pack without a break.. I really wish I hadn't confused myself like this, i'm 19 and at college and the last thing my fiance and I need right now is to become pregnant. If anyone has any advice, I would really appreciate it! Thanks xxx

I haven't been on the pill for a number of years now, but will see if I can help.

I used to take two months of pills without a break (as I hated getting periods) and understand that you can do this, although I used to get really low if I didn't take a break. As far as I understand, as you haven't taken the pill as directed there is a possibility that the contraception will have lessened or stopped. I would book an appointment with your doctor to discuss this. If you have had unprotected sex since you last took the pill as prescribed, I would speak with your doctor about possibly taking a pregnancy test.

I hope that this helps and that you get the answer you want.
Good luck
xx
