Naming Your Baby An Exboyfriends Name
Posted: 08-12-05 13:56pm

Ok this may be a just a minor dilemma...But I need some opinions.

I have thought of many different names for a boy - I have picked these couple names: ryan, kyler, jack, brayden, adam

now is there some kind of general rule not to name your kids after exboyfriends...What if you really like their name. Is it weird? I touch base with some exs here and there - wouldnt it be disturbing to them if I named the child the same as them...They would think I was naming the baby after them correct? Should I care?

I havent nessecarily mentioned every single exboyfriends name to my husband - do you think he would care where the name came from?

I would love to hear any thoughts on this topic:) thanks!!

I would say it is a definite no unless it is a family name already, think how you might feel if 1. Your so named the baby after an ex and you didn't find out til you ran into her out and about.
2. Think how you'd feel to meet an ex with a daughter with your name or to run into your so's ex and find out her son shares your so's name. It would be weird, i'd say definitely don't use them.

Err on the side of caution. There are thousands of great names, it shouldn't be impossible to find another name you like!

I would name my child a name of an ex boyfriend if I liked it enough... I mean it is going to be your childs name for the rest of your life... Is the ex boyfriend going to be in yourlife that long? Or is he that important to you still where you still think about him enough for it to remind you.

Id say if you like the name then name your child that. If you didnt name your kid after someone who has the same name then there wouldnt be anything left to name our kids,
for example, I know a girl names haylee that I hate, but I love the name and would name my daughter that. You cant think of the people you know with the same name or youll have a tough time finding a name.

Ok..Hopefully you can understand that. Lol I think I said the word name like 40 times. Basically you cant think of other people while naming your child. (unless you are trying to honor someone.)

good luck.

Also I dont know any of the names of my moms ex's. She never talked about them. Unless you plan on telling your kid all the guys you used to date .. I dont think that would be an issue..
