What Is This???
Posted: 08-12-05 21:42pm

I've got some wierd sleep issues, maybe this is the place to ask.

The wierd problem i'm having is something I don't know what to label, only describe. I have these crazy nightmares which involve my jaw clenching very tightly and I can't make it stop. In the dream, it feels like my teeth are about to shatter they are clenched so tight. Then I will try to pry open my clenched teeth, and my jaw breaks (in the dream). This is the point where I wake up, and my teeth and jaw are sore. Any ideas what this is? Doesn't happen every night, only once in a while.

There is one other not-so-wierd problem. I snore insanely. It used to be i'd go through periods of time (months) where i'd snore, then periods where I wouldn't. Now it's non-stop and very loud. My girlfriend and I recently broke up, and this may have had something to do with it. I know it's usually a light-hearted problem, but I can't stand it. I thought it was from being overweight, so I lost 30lbs (my main motivation to loose weight was to stop snoring, believe it or not) and am at normal weight now. Didn't do any good. Sleeping on my side used to work, doesn't anymore. I've tried strips and sprays. My girlfriend used to tell me i'd even stop breathing for long periods of time. I asked a doctor, and she said it could be sleep apnia... But how could that be? I'm only 22 and not at all overweight (5'10" 175lbs). Could it be a result of humidity?

You dont have to be over weight to have sleep apnea, I had it since I was little my mom and my daughter also have it, I have an appt for daughter to see a sleep specialist for it, do you still have your tonsils?? That could be your problem. Once they took mine out I didnt have that prob anymore. And for the clenched jaw it could be from stress, I knoe when im worried or stressed even just a little I clench my jaw and grind my teeth in my sleep. Hope I helped some :) good luck

It might be just stress, but it could be tmj--its where jaws lock and have to pry them open. Mybe it could be happening inyour sleep, while you relax. I would do some research on it. Have the internet check it out. I dont know the words so youll have to seek it out be initials.
