Q: Hcg Levels

My daughter has been having serial hcg levels for the last two weeks. She has had them approx. Every two days- her first and second was 16 , her third was 59, fourth was 90, and her last one was 100. I know that this is not normal - is it an ectopic pregnancy? Her last period was on october 1st. She has had no bleeding or abdominal pain. Can she have an ultrasound now before her levels go over 1500 to find out if it is ectopic? Could this be indicative of something other than an ectopic pregnancy? Please help!

Hi terri,

your daughters hcg levels look fine to me, they are certainly not declining at all, if anything they are doubling every couple of days, which is exactly what they should be doing. If the levels were declining very quickly, then she could suspect a miscarriage. If the levels rushed up very quickly and then declined quickly, then she could suspect an ectopic. Has she been to the doctor to have her levels checked ? I truly don't know if an ultrasound would be warranted at this stage of pregnancy, it is very early and the doctors may not even see anything on the scan. The fact that she has had no bleeding and no abdominal pain, everything sounds fine and i'm sure she will go on to have a very normal pregnancy.

Good luck

Hcg Levels
I am worried about my daughter she is 24 years old this is her second pregnancy and she is in her 2nd trimester, she went to the doctor 2-3 days ago and the doctor did a sonogram and had, had previous blood tests, she is high risk with gestational diabetes and has some high blood pressure and some swelling, she pre eclamptic last pregnancy, but this time her ob told; her that her hcg levels are very high and that she will need to have weekly nst's what does this indicate? Does she have a placenta previa? Or is she somehow in some danger of loosing the pregnancy? She states she feels good and she looks good, the baby is active , what's going on, what are the possibilities and what should we watch for or do? Thanks--concerned mom
