Infection

I had a yeast infection for the past few days. First I thought it was just irritation, so I bought vagisil. It didn't help. I didn't go to the doctor but went to walmart again and bought monistat 1 dose treatment. Here it is two days later and I still have an awful odor. Is it because it didn't work? All my other symptoms went away. Should I go to the doctor? Any advice??

Thanks

Hi carvy,

yeast infections are a pain, more of a nuseance than anything else, and very persitant. I never had any luck with drug store medications. Have you tried acidophilus bifidus ? That's those live organisms in yoghurt. You can buy the acidophilus bifidus organism in tablet form from most supermarkets or drug stores, it's completely natural but it is the only thing I have had any luck with. As a matter of fact I haven't had a reoccuring infection since I took them and that was over 7 months ago now.

Good luck

Thanks suzy. I have heard that yogurt is good for yeast infections. I have not tried acidophilus bifidus. Where can you get it? So after you took it once or for the amount of time till your infection went away, you haven't taken it since? So it's not like a pill you have to take every day.

But if the monistat take the infection away, why the odor? I still showered every day like I normally do.

Thanks for your help.

Even though it says its a one day medicine, it usually takes a few days for it to completely clear up. You usually start to feel better after a day but not completely back to normal for several more.

The medications may have not worked for you, or it could be another kind of infection. You could have a mixture of a yeast infection and vaginosis, or some other infection which may require an antibiotic. I am not talking about std's either. Just regular old bacterial infections. If symptoms persist, especially if it is accompanied by odor, I would definately go to your doctor.
