Weird News At First Ultrasound. Anyone Else Go Through This? Posted: 08-16-05 22:11pm
According to my calculations, I am 7 weeks
pregnant. I went to my first ob visit
today and the nurse had the exact same
calculations. Then, I went into the exam
room and the doctor did a vaginal
ultrasound and told me the baby looked
more like a 4 week embryo. I am freaking
out b/c I had a miscarriage 2 years ago.
( I was 6 weeks when it happened.) he told
me they would do a quantatative count of
the hcg in my blood today and compare it
to blood that is to be drawn in 48 hours
to see if the levels are rising. If not,
then the baby isn't growing. He told me
that I could have "mis-calculated". But,
my period is like clock work and I am
pretty sure of when I ovulated. Has
anyone else ever been told this and the
pregnancy been okay?? I'm really
worried. I will know more on thursday,
but am looking for re-assurance. Any
input is welcome. Thanks. Melanie

Your hormone levels are the only way of
knowing for sure whats oing on with your
prenancy. My expeience was alttle
different the your. I lost the baby
before I had my first uterurine u/s. They
also thouht I must of miscalculated. Mu
levels were very off they started going
down drastically.
By then I needed a dand c. If the is a
heart beat and your levels are rising you
could of miscalculated. Let me know
yesterdday was the day.

Well, I got my results of the quantatative
hcg. My blood showed 15,000 of it on
tues and 21,000 thurs. So, the levels
are rising, which means the baby is
growing. My doc told me that ideally
he'd like to see the number double in a 48
hour period. It only went up 6,000.
But from what i've read on the internet,
most docs want to see it double in about
72 hours. Well, I am going back on tues
to have blood drawn again. He said that
as long as it is steadily rising, things
should be okay. We will do another u/s
in 2 weeks so he can see if the baby has
made good progress. Thanks to 3kizz for
your reply! I appreciate it.

Ok, so I have had almost the exact same
thing recently!!! I am so glad to know
there is someone else out there as mixed
up as I am! I went in for an examination
last week because I had been experiencing
some bleeding. The doctor confirmed my
estimated time of being about 7 weeks
along. He wanted to find out the reason
for the bleeding and sent me for an
ultrasound. The only problem was that
the "blob" the ultrasound guy found was
not a 7 week "blob." so I got sent for a
48 hour test too. My levels had doubled,
but they were the levels of a person who
is only about 3 weeks pregnant. I had to
go back again today and I think my levels
are still going up. I don't know what
the heck is going on. A girl at my work
told me about a friend of hers that had
the same thing happen, but it was because
she had miscarried but got pregnant right
away again so she never even realized she
had had one. Let me know what the doctor
says! And good luck!

Thanks for your reply mylissa. I hope
things go well for you. I had another
quantatative hcg on tues and my value is
now 39,000 (up from 21,000 last thurs).
My doc said that it all sounds good. He
scheduled me for another u/s next tues.
I'll let you know if my "blob" looks more
like a baby next week.

Me Too Posted: 08-25-05 12:33pm
According to my calculations, I should be
8 weeks pregnant. I went to the Dr.
Yesterday and according to the vag.
Ultrasound, he thinks I should be less far
along then we thought. He didn't offer
to do any kind of research through blood
tests instead he just scheduled me for
another ultrasound in 2 weeks.
I also mentioned to him that my symptoms,
tender breasts and naseau have some what
subsided. My breasted are very, very
swollen and I sometimes get naseauous but
it's not constant anymore.
Did anyone else's symptoms subside?

Hey christine and drmel_dc, how's it
going? My doctor is out of town so I
can't talk to him about my last
quantitave, but my spotting is subsiding
so I feel much better. Christine, if you
are feeling concerned, you should request
that your doctor allow you to do the hcg
quantitative test (48 hour test) like
drmel_dc and I have had. You end up
looking a bit like a heroine user from the
pinpricks, but I felt much better knowing
that the only way those levels could be
going up was if I was pregnant.

Yes they were very strong in the beginning
and then lessened. Either we get used to
the hormones more, or it is because it is
not such an impact on our body anymore.
Or the progestrone and estrogen in the
beginning, and hcg later on--along with
progestrone. I dont know it has happened
to a lot of the girls on here, including
myself. I know I am still pregnant.

Thanks Ladies Posted: 08-26-05 06:34am
Thank you so much for your replies. I am
going to my Dr. On monday for some more
tests and another sonogram. What's
making things worse is that my actual Dr.
Hasn't been in his office for several
weeks (everyone of his clients have been
giving birth!) so i've been seeing his
associate who doesn't have half the
bedside manor that my Dr. Does.
Thanks again for all the positive
thoughts...

Mine Went Away Too Posted: 09-07-05 17:46pm
My symptoms went away the week that I had
my miscarriage, but don't worry, that's
not true all the time.

Ultrasound Internal No Heartbeat Posted: 10-23-05 02:38am
I am so glad to hear someone else has been
through this.
I am a new member so I have not seen any
new happenings.Until this moment I
believed I was no longer pregnant.I was
told after ultrasound and blood tests it
could be an abnormality so I gave up
because I was bleeding as if I had my
period and slightly cramping and due to my
age 39 being high risk there is a gray
area but no heartbeat in so many words
sounded to me as if I was already
miscarrying.Any advice from anyone or a
obgyn that knows what they are doing
instead of terrifying already scared first
time mothers?Can anyone help?

I am going through the same thing right
now. I have calculated that I should be
9 weeks, but the u/s showed that I was
only about 5 weeks. I'm really scared
because I had a miscarriage which my last
pregnancy. I was about 8 weeks in when I
started bleeding. I called the doctor but
the appointment was set for 2 weeks later.
I hope everything is okay this time
because we really want this baby.
