I had a new set of dentures.. I had it
for a week now. Just some questions about
denture cleaners. What denture cleaner is
effective the efferdent or polident. And
is it safe to soak your denture overnight
on a flavored tablet?

Hello,
I never tried the efferdent or polident,
I buy my denture cleaner directly from the
denturist its called nu-dent, so I know it
has to be safe . Keeps my dentures white
and hygienically clean. However my mother
has always used polident and she soaks
them everynight and she hasnt complained.
The flavored tablets should be ok, as long
as you rinse your dentures with clean warm
water before putting them in your mouth,
and its important that your dentures stay
in water, so yes soaking them is ok, it
keeps them from drying out.

Thanks edna!! Geezz I didnt know that
having dentures requires great work and
more research lol.. Well another
question, do I really have to use special
toothpaste for my denture.. I bought this
poligrip toothpaste, cuz my cousin told me
its safer to use denture toothpaste than
ordinary toothpaste.

Big, you dont know the half of it, ive
only had my dentures for about two months,
because I found dentures to be so
expensive I wanted to make sure that I
protect my investment. Ive asked my
mother what she uses and she has had her
dentures for 10 years, now they say to
change them after 5 but my mothers
dentures fit so well and have only started
to discolor this pass year I figure she
must be doing something right. Your
cousin is right about using the denture
toothpaste for your denture much safer, my
mother uses it, I however dont because I
brush them in water then soak them over
night in nu-dent to keep them white and
clean, I do however brush my gums and
tongue with ordinary toothpaste to get rid
of plaque that can form on your gums(so im
told). Im still getting used to having
the dentures, I have some trouble eating
but because of my tmj I have to stick to
soft foods and they kind of stick to my
dentures and move them around, I want to
try either the powder or liner to see what
will keep my dentures in place, have you
had that problem?

Yes I had that problem.. But its only for
a week I have to eat mashed potatoes,
oatmeals and pudding(yuck!!!) but that was
only on my first week then on the second
week started eating chicken and pork..
After that I was chewing on beef...
About my dentures they are expensive
too... My doctor told me about replacing
them after 5 years... But I dont like
that to happen so thats why im using
branded denture cleaners like efferdent
and polident cleaners. I also use
ordinary toothpaste on my tounge and
gums.. But I use the poligrip on my
dentures.. If not poligrip I use the the
fresh n' brite of efferdent..

Your very lucky to able to chew on
beef....I cant but its not because of my
dentures ...Its my jaw. If using brand
name for denture will help keep your
dentures looking their best then im
certainly for that, thats probably how my
mother has kept hers for over 10 yrs(i
asked her about it today) she has had them
for 12.5 years. The key is to keep the
dentures from drying out and using harsh
cleaning stuff on them. She uses the
efferdent when she eats or drinks
something that will stain her dentures,
she will usually soak them in just water
and brush them with the toothpaste made
for dentures after she eats. Good
advice....

Yeah your right about those harsh denture
cleaners I asked my neighbor who has
dentures too on what he uses on his
denture he told me, before he used baking
soda and clorox those cleaners didnt work
for him, it just made his dentures to dry
fast and the whiteness fades away... He
had to go to the dentist again to make new
denture.. Too bad for him. Now he uses
polident, efferdent and some other branded
products..
For your mom 12.5 years is great!! I hope
mine would last that long too. Say to
your mom thanks for the advise..
