You'll Be Fine... Don't Worry Posted: 08-21-05 23:45pm
Don't worry - it probably means you're in
the "gray zone" and that some of the cells
in your cervix are showing up as possibly
pre-cancerous. What will happen is your
doc will probably do a copolscopy (sp?),
which feels a little like him/her looking
at your cervix through a magnifying glass.
He/she will see if any cells look
problematic and, if some of them do,
he/she will either just monitor it until
you give birth (as cervical cancer takes
forever to grow) or take off any
troublesome spots with a loop (sp) or
liquid nitrogen. It's totally fine...
Tons of my friends have had this problem
and it's never been a serious issue.
Congratulations on your pregnancy &
don't worry - you'll be fine!

A-typical Cells Posted: 09-01-05 19:28pm
Yes - these are called a-typical cells and
they are considered possibly
"pre-cancerous", but most of the time the
disappear by themselves. Since you are
pregnant, your doctor should perform
another pap smear soon. Usually, after
the initial internal exam, you won't get
another one until much later in the
pregnancy. But with these cells, they
like to check every 3 months. It will
probably not turn into anything, but it's
good to keep your eye on it.
