What Are the Chances of My Child Being Bi-polar? Posted: 08-23-05 10:55am
I am pregnant with my first child, my
fiance is not bi-polar, neither am i.
Bi-polar does not run in my family at all.
But it definitely does on my boyfriends
side. His mother is bi-polar, his
brother is severely bi-polar, his sister
is bi-polar, but my fiance is not.
I dont know how bi-polar works
genetically, but we dont have it on my
side of the family. What are the chances
the baby will be bi-polar?

Then the chances of you having a bi-polor
child is the same as it is with any other
disorder or genetic trait. The baby
basically has the same chance of getting
your eyes and the dads nose. Don't worry
so much. My 13 yr old is bi-polor, so am
i. It can be dealt with. Learn about it
so you know what to look for when the baby
is a teen and relax and enjoy your child.

I am also pregnant with my first child but
I am bipolar. My husband does not have
bipolar but I have a feeling my poor child
will have it. I can't really say how much
of a chance your child has of being
bipolar but I can give you some info on my
family history. I have severe bipolar, my
brother has a milder form of bipolar and
my sister does not have it at all. My
sister husband is normal too. They have
two children, one of them is normal and
the other has bipolar. Both of my
parents do not have bipolar. My father's
sister has bipolar and paranoid
schitzoprenia (sp?). I do not know of
anyone else in my family with mental
disorders but i'm sure there has to be
more. Hope that wasn't too confusing but
I just wanted to give an example of how it
can run in a family.
