the Morning After Pill. Posted: 08-23-05 11:51am
Hi,
i took the morning after pill in july
because my boyfriend's condom broke. A
couple of weeks after that I got my
period. The beginning of august I got my
period and it's only been 2 1/2 weeks and
I am breakthrough bleeding, I think. Is
this a side effect of the morning after
pill? Or could I be pregnant? I haven't
felt nauseated or any other effects of
pregnancy. Can anyone help me with this.
I'm feeling a little scared.
Thanks

plan b, the so-called
"morning after pill", contains four times
the amount of hormones than a regular
birth control pill. Some of these
hormones are most likely still in your
system. When I took plan b, I started
earlier than I would have normally but I
did not have any breakthrough bleeding.
From what you have posted, I do not think
you are pregnant. If you are really
worried about it, make an appointment to
discuss it with your doctor or call your
local planned parenthood and ask to speak
to the nurse practitioner. I think it
may just be taking your body time to
readjust after taking plan b.
Again, if you are really worried about it,
make an appointment to see a doctor and
explain your symptoms to her/him.
Once before, I had a month where I
started, stopped, and then started again 2
weeks later for 8 days, stopped, and then
started again 2 weeks after that for 5
days. At the time, I was switching birth
control pill brands from ortho tricyclen
to ortho tricyclen-lo and my doctor told
me the hormone irregularity was most
likely to blame and that she could find no
evidence of a pregnancy or miscarriage.
This may be what is happening to you but
if you would rather be certain, by all
means make an appointment to see your
doctor.
If you need anything else, pm me.
Peace,
jenn

I had a similar situation I took the ecp
on 10/04/2005 and got a very light period
on 10/12/2005. It was a week earlier than
anticipated. If your unsure wait another
week and have a pregnancy test.
