Last year I went to the doctor for a
terrible pain in my ear, the doc said I
had an ear infection. But it never went
away so I went to the dentist they said I
have tmj and gave me a night guard which
gave me worst headaches and pain they
acted like it was no big deal tmj that is
but I have no problem with opening my
mouth wide or getting stuck like I hear
you will, I never had any problems untill
I had 2 root canals and crowds and the
pain is on only that side of my mouth
where I had it done . I have not had my
wisdom teeth taken out and I cant because
the nerves are wraped around the wistom
teeth so do you think I could not have tmj
at all the pain is the pulling of the
nerves my dentist thinks im crazy please
help..

I had similar pains, and still do. I
have been to over a 100 dentists, and no
one believed my pain either. Turns out
that yes I do have tmj, but that wasn't
the main problem. The problem was I had
nerve damage, from extractions of my
wisdom teeth. This can never be fixed,
unless I have brain surgery to fix the
nerves that are causing me pain. I am
now going to an acupuncturist, which helps
a little. But I feel your pain, good
luck. I wish I had better news for you.

I have been trying to get an answer to the
question does tmj cause simptoms as
digestive problems or indigestion or what?

Ear Pain And Tmj? Posted: 03-05-04 23:59pm
Hi- I just wanted to tell you that I had a
weird the happen when I had a hysterectomy
3 years ago. I woke up from surgery with
pain in my left ear and throat. They
thought it was acid reflux, tmj, ear
infection, possible stroke during surgery.
They asked me if I had any dental work
and I had but 2 years before. I was just
recently diagnosed, this week with
glossopharyngeal neuralgia, where the pain
is a burning/sharp pain and is induced by
talking, swallowing, stress, or hot and
cold foods. I will probably have brain
surgery to decompress the nerve. It's not
as common as trigeminal neuralgia, which
involves the face nerves and is also often
misdiagnosed as tmj or sinus infections.
If you find a good ent or neurologist they
might be of some help. It's taken me this
long to get a diagnosis. They say you may
get the pain when opening your mouth or
chewing, or sneezing also. The pain is in
only one ear and may come and go. Each
time the pain returns though it is
stronger. You might want to look it up on
the internet, just do a search on the
different neuralgias, (glossopharyngeal).
Good luck and let me know if you have any
questions.
