First Prenatal Visit Posted: 08-28-05 00:19am
When should a women schedule her first
prenatal after it was confirmed that she
is pregnant? I hear from friends that the
doctor likes to wait till 12 weeks...Then
I hear 8 weeks!

It depends on the doctor you choose to
see. Just call them as soon as possible
and they will schedule you for when you
need to be seen. My doctor won't see you
until you are 10-12 weeks and I hear
that's pretty normal.

I would start making appointments now if
you haven't chosen the doctor you want to
deliver your baby. I went in to my
physician at 5 weeks and realized she
wasn't for me, at least for something this
important. All she did is worry me about
m/c and didn't give me much advise at all.
She wants to see me at 11 weeks but I
have decided to make appointments to
interview doctors at 9 weeks so I can pick
one I feel comfortable with by the time I
am 10-12 weeks. I am trying to be
positive about having a healthy baby, but
it is hard waiting so long, especially
when morning sickness is so draining on
you physically and emotionally. At first
I wanted an ultrasound right away but the
more i've read it sounds like they can be
bad if you do more than one unnecassarily.
I will just have to wait. But if you
are worried or just want to let your
doctor know then make an appointment.
Then at least if you have questions or
problems you'll have your doctor.
