Am I Allergic to Fruit?? Ekkk Posted: 08-29-05 22:16pm
It started with pineapple...I would eat
it, then my tongue would swell and become
sensitive. But if I rinse or brush my
teeth and tongue after I am fine. Now I
am noticing a problem with peaches! My
tongue is sensitive, but my cheeks swell a
bit and feel weird on the inside.
Tonight I ate some cantalope, and it
happened again! I am at the point where
I am afraid to eat any fruit. It feels
like my mouth has been swollen for a
couple of weeks.
Any help would be great. Am I going
crazy? If not why are my favorite foods
now hurting me.
Thanks
lb

Emphasize proper handwashing before and
after eating.
Emphasize proper washing of foods.
Emphasize proper washing of utensils most
especially in kitchen.

I usually get some swelling of the tongue
when I eat pineapple too, only if I eat
too much though. I think it's mainly
because of the high amount of acid in
pineapple, since I don't get it when I eat
low-acid fruits like strawberries or
bananas.

Hi, I know of someone who has a similar
problem. This guy's mouth have been
swollen for over 1 week now and the
swelling won't go away. What would anyone
recommend for him to use to get rid of the
swelling?? It is really bad for him; he
can hardly eat or talk properly. Please
let me know of any suggestions you may
have to help him. Thanks.

Hi I work in an allergy office and thats
not normal you should get that checked
out. Food allergies (any allergies for
that matter) can develop at any time. If
this problem persists you should go see an
allergist.
My sister has a similar problem. I think
that u should go to the doctor. Its note
a joke. And its note a normal

I am actually allergic to some kind of
fruits, which I think developed because of
my pollen allergies.
Though theres no swelling involed, my
throat and back of my mouth get very
itchy. This happens whenever I eat
peaches, plumbs, nectarines, and cherries.

I am allergic to most fruits now, which
needless to say, is a pain in the butt. I
don't swell like you described, it is more
of the irritation/itchy feeling like.
matts0344. It is worse with some fruits
than others but I generally just started
to avoid them all to be sure. Wanting to
swallow sandpaper just to itch your throat
is not a fun feeling, lol. For me, it
started out with melons only (cantaloupe,
watermelon, etc.) when i was about 8 and
then spread to others. I avoid avocado
like the plague now which is harder than
you think because i love sushi and Mexican
food. Oops. Anyways, i hope yours don't
continue developing, but you should see an
allergist to get a better idea of what to
do. Good luck!

my girlfriend is also allergic to fruit,
and i feel for her, she loves fruit but
cannot eat it, slowly one by one over a
period of time she reacted to fruit,
becoming itchy on her face and neck, and
gets red rashy skin. Im convinced that its
pesticides that are now going into fruits,
we are going to do some experiments to see
if it is, i will let you know how irt
goes.
