My Worst Nightmare
Posted: 08-30-05 06:00am

Hi, I have been reading all of the messages left, really helpful, bit I just want to know which is the best form of birth control available,
iam on the depro vira, but still I think I could get pregnant, my fear is so bad that I wont sleep with my boyfriend, this is my worst nightmare "becoming pregnant",

iam mad about him but iam just so terrified, to add to it his little sis, who is 16 has recently had her baby, this fuels my anxiety and my own sister who is younger than me had a miscarrige when she was 15.

Im 21 years old.Is this right, I feel like iam missing out on alot because of my fear. But I just cant help it, I want to do well out of life and I dont want a baby right now, but the fear of it happening is holding me back from ever committing to anyone in a relationship.

How likely am I to get pregnant on the depro vira and other forms of contraceptive, without using a condom??????????
Can anyone help me and give me some solution to this!

First, the bc you're on is called depo-provera. If you are really this worried about becoming pregnant then you also need to be using condoms - if the depo would fail then you've used a back-up method.

Nothing is 100% safe except for abstinence - depo is 99% effective when given correctly and the pill is also 99% effective when taken correctly.

I'm not sure what else to tell you... Either use a condom or don't have sex. Pregnancy is a risk you take when you become sexually active.

Thank you for your reply.
Its when I see all my friends and family that have children, their lives have become so hard and depressing in some ways, I dont want this, I fear this most.

I think I have made myself focus on these points rather than the good points of being with someone.
Belive me I know that when you commit to a relationship with someone you have to take that risk of becoming pregnant, its just something I want to avoid at all costs for a long time to come.

I feel that these reasons I am giving myself are true but I think they probally go deeper, not just to avoid getting pregnant, maby something else.

I know what you mean. It's scary to think about becoming pregnant when you don't want to. My brother & his girlfriend have a one year old - they're 20 & 18. She was only 17 when she got pregnant and it was a big shock to all of us. I'm 24 and it really opened my eyes as to how much time and energy go into raising a child...I'm definitely not ready yet either!!
