Hi, adam!
I'm 40 years old, from slovenia. My first
epileptic seizure came when I was 9 and I
had troubles till I was 19. Then I lived
20 years without any seizures, but now
(oh, I am so dissapointed) they are back
... Be careful when deciding about your
career - try to get a degree which will
enable you to work at home as I do
(translator). You will be spared a lot of
trouble ...

Hi shannon,
i'm 41 yrs old, I have had epilepsy
since I was 8 yrs old. The seizures
started out of the blue only now have I
discovered the epilepsy may have been
caused my an infection my mother had while
she was pregnant with me, it's very
difficult to determine the cause. My
seizures have been controlled with
medication until I reached mid thirties
than I started having seizures problems.
I suggest if you begin having problems
with seizures or your medication is not
working for you ect .... Don't hesitate
to tell your doctor and expect him to make
changes, not have the attitude you have to
live with it. Also, eeg are good one way
of keeping track but I also suggest mri's
they will give your doctor additional
information.
Good luck !!

Do You Have Epilepsy Posted: 07-17-04 09:22am
I have had epilepsy since day 1 for me ( I
am now 43)male I did go 8 yrs at one stage
without a turn and they came back again, I
have tried every available medication as
they come out ,some with awful side
effects like losing weight (skelton like)
insomnia , weight gain,. Some improve my
turns slightly but have not yet found
that magic pill or comnination of pills to
let me be turn free again, my neuroligist
wants me to go in for evaluation for an
operation but I am extremly scared of side
affects and operation , I am interested in
reading messages from anyone who has had
the operation ,particularly those in new
south wales australia.

Hey
ive had epilepsy since 7th grade (13), I
just had one out of the blue and it's
stuck with me. I'm entering my senior
year in college (21). I drive..Go out,
play field hockey at school, have a great
boyfriend and all. Life can be scary,
embarassing and complicated at times...But
sleep well, eat well, stay drug and
alcohol free and you will find that
epilepsy is something you can easily live
with. Good luck my friend.
P.S I take depakote and love it. Very
little side effects-im groggy in the
morning

Thanks for your kind words, I do make the
most of what I ve got and can do,
naturally there are limitations with this
problem , but I am actively employed and
go dancing(hence my user name) for
exercise ,socialising and fun 2-3 times a
week and love it . But the thought of a
operation ,opening your head up removing a
part of your brain is scary, sometimes I
wonder is it better the devil you know,
because I dont want to find I get memory
or periphial vision loss or any bodily
function I currently have now.

Hi, i'm 35, and have officially been
diagnosed with epilepsy since I was 15.
I say officially because when I had all of
my testing done for surgery the doctors
concluded that I actually must have been
having seizures my whole life and they
only became noticeable (because mine are
nocturnal) when I was 15. Before that
they feel that they were not too severe.
As i've grown older though, the seizures
have become worse, as well as bouts of
paralysis lasting up to 3 weeks after a
seizure.

Dear adam 2490,
i am 40 years female from slovenia. I
have been diagnosed at 13 too. I try to
live normal life (ok, I don't have driving
license, since I have fear of driving and
get attack), I take my meds regularly, so
my illnes is under control. Don't let
epilepsy be your "master". A lot of
people are having this or that illness and
epilepsy is just one of them. Yes, it can
be nasty, but still life is offering a lot
and really try to enjoy it!
Good luck!

Im 16 and got diagnosed less than a month
ago. I had my first grand mal seizure
and it was the scariest thing ive ever
been through. The doctors said that ive
been having really small seizures for
awhile but we never noticed them. I
guess im not as scared as I was when I
first found out. I cant drive for 6
months now and whenever I get a weird
feeling, I freak out and im afraid that im
going to have another seizure. Im taking
keppra and it makes me soooo tired and
weak in the morning and at night. I hate
it but I guess its just something I have
to learn to deal with.
