Popping Ears.... Posted: 08-31-05 11:48am
Hello,
my ears started popping about a year ago,
and they haven't stopped. Its gotten a
little better, but when I can still hear
them pop when I swallow 75% of the time.
So its not as constant, but still
annoying. They also ache slightly when
the weather is humid or rainy. I went to
an ent specialsit about 4 months ago. He
prescribed me flonase and claritin. I
took both medications for a month, but
they didn't do anything. I still use the
flonase from time to time since I have
mild allergies. Does anyone know what
this is? I used to have a lot of ear
infections as a kid, but those stopped
when I was 8 or so. I am now 24.
I will take any advice.
Thanks!

I Know How You Feel! Posted: 09-11-05 21:10pm
Hi there,
i don't have any advice but I just wanted
to say I know how you feel. When ever I
swallow my ears pop my right ear the most.
I posted on here about my plugged ears
just today. I have had plugged ears for
ever a week now and they pop. It's
annoying. If you want to know more just
read my post or feel free to message me.
Let me know if anything works for you! I
will do the same.

i have not tried this. I will look into
it though.
My symptoms go from better to worse on a
daily basis. Very strange.
I have known I have tmj for a long time.
But it hasn't caused that much discomfort
other than my constant clicking of my jaw.
But beginning a few months ago I started
experiencing constant dizziness. I saw a
neurologist, ent and physical therapist
without too much help.
Then a few days ago, I saw on another
forum a posting on how constant jaw
clicking from tmj can affect the inner ear
and cause dizziness. He or she then said
how a particular exercise ended his/her
jaw clicking.
Anyway I tried it and have eliminated 90%
of my jaw clicking and with that most of
my dizziness. I had been on disability a
couple months and with this drastic
improvement will be able to go back to
work in a couple weeks. The exercise
(which I have now seen posted several
places, including on doctors' pages) is to
press your tongue to the top of your mouth
and hold for 10 seconds. Do this for ten
repititions and do the whole set 5 times a
day. You should do it sitting up and
looking straight ahead because it really
is training muscles in the neck which
control your tongue. By doing this you
train your tongue to stay against the top
of your mouth. I have noticed now that
when I let my tongue lay on the bottom of
my mouth, pressure builds up in my ears
and then I start clicking again.
Hope this helps "jaw-clickers" out there.
If it does, it may help alleviate other
symptoms like it has my dizziness.

thats very interesting. Thanks for your
advice, I will give it a shot. I am not
sure that I have tmj, but I do have
strange jaw pain a couple times a year,
and I also have the ear problem with
occasional dizziness. Thanks again.

Ear Popping Posted: 10-22-05 20:40pm
I had this problem for over ten years in
my left ear! It all started when we took
a hard landing on a plane coming home from
vacation. My ear hurt really bad for
three weeks after. That pain was
replaced by this popping, that I seemed to
notice the most when I went to bed at
night. I went to an ent, and he said
something about a flap in my throat that
covers the end of a tube that runs from my
throat to my ears, and the flap is
supposed to open and close when you
swallow. Mine apparently was getting
stuck, which causes pressure to build up
and that makes the ear pop. He said it
was not serious, and did nothing for me.
Ten years later it has finally gone away,
though now I have problems with that ear
when I have a cold or sore throaot.
Sometimes it will hurts, with a picky
feeling, like something is being stuck in
there. I am just glad the popping finally
went away, because it was really annoying!
Good luck with yours. The doctor told
me if it really bugged me to hold my nose
and try to blow air out of it, and that
would make the ears pop out some of the
pressure. I didn't work that well for
me!

Same for me Posted: 06-11-08 23:43pm
I have the same problem over a year now
popping ears and went to ENT doc he said
nothing there it will go away and never
went away. It also gives me a headache. I
thought I was the only one with this
problem and was crazy. I told people about
it and reaction like I am crazy, but
reading online stuff I searched today on
yahoo questions about this and then found
this site and reading all this knowing
other people also have this helps. The
thing is if so many people have this
problem why don't they have a solution for
it. Every time I am in cold area or by air
conditioner or a vent my years pop and get
headache I tried to avoid it for about a
year and now its back to been worest. I do
take pills and nose spray not really
helping.

ear clicking Posted: 07-24-08 11:08am
Stevemart - thank you - i have had
clicking and fullness in my ears for three
months now. I have seen several doctors -
dentists- and chiropractors who all say
there is nothing wrong - and that I just
have TMJ and will have to live with it.
Well after only one morning of the tongue
placement you suggested my ears are not
clicking. What a relieve. They still
feel full, but are not clicking. Thank you
for your info and can you tell me the
website you found this info at?

So glad I came across this Posted: 09-24-08 16:51pm
I have been feeling this eay for about a
month now...like I am on a plane and I
have to constantly try and make my ears
unpop. I had been experienceing light
headed feelings for months and I don't
know if it is connected. I went to the ENT
and he did tests on my ears and said it
was ok. He said it might be my nasal
passage (guess teh tubes in the back
connecting my ear and nose) I"m simply
using nasanex and saline to try to fix
it....With that being said it's been a few
days and I STIIIIIILLL don't feel better.
He said I was fine btu to go back and
possibly have a scope put in there to
check it out. It is annoying me to no end
I need to know how I can make is subside
lol.... I don't have the clicking but I do
notice that I loose focus a little with
the sight sometimes to like there is
pressure up there. Uhhhh everyone thinks
I'm nuts and overreacting but it is
annoying.

me too! Posted: 10-06-08 03:28am
About 8 or more years ago my ears just
started popping all the time. Every single
time I swallow, every day, for years and
years my ears pop! I went to an ear nose
and throat doc a long time ago and he put
a little camera up in my nose and into the
eustachian tube (connects the ear to back
of the throat) and we discovered that my
poor little tube is simply broken. This
means that my ears are unable to stabalize
the pressure because these tubes arent
doin their jobs!! He told me I could get
tubes in my ears, but this would only be a
temporary fix. I believe those need to be
replaced every year and they just ease the
pain & annoyance! Its difficult
because my hearing has decreased since
then and when I get sick the popping is
non-stop! Its exactly like having rice
crispies in your ears 24/7. I also get
frequent ear infections and sinus
infections. Basically Im a mess! Hope this
helps. I reccomend all of you going to see
an ENT doc =) -sarah
