Maybe you all can give me some insight on how your first doc appointment went? Maybe I had too high of expectations?

First off, I showed up at the front desk. The receptionist asked me the date of my last menstrual period. I told then june 30th, but it was very irregular. Then she asks me "is there a chance you could be pregnant?"

....

Um hello???? I told her, yes, I am pregnant, which is why I am here. Shes like, oh it doesnt say that by your appointment, are you sure you told the receptionist you were pregnant? I am like, yes... That is the reason why I am here!

So they gave me a urine test to confirm my pregnancy. Yes, I am indeed pregnant lol. They gave me a papsmear and told me I had a small yeast infection. They did an internal exam and said "yep, you feel to be around the 9 week mark". She looks at her little calander thing and says "you due date would be around april 8th or so".

And that was it lol. She gave me pre-natal vitamins and paper work to go get the manditory bloodwork done.. But that was it!

I asked her, okay, so my last period was irregular, can you tell me for sure how far along I am??? (which was the whole point of this visit in the first place). She tells me no, that I have to make an appointment with their other office, because they have the sonogram equipment. Now, couldnt someone have told me that when I called in the first place asking for a sonogram? I would of just made the appointment at the other office in the first place???

So now I have an appointment for a sonogram on tuesday, sept. 6th at 3:00pm.

It is just so disappointing to go to a doctor and have them tell you everything you already know... I guess the receptionist didnt write down any information I gave her on the phone, like wanting a sonogram, my last period, and of course, the fact that I was pregnant lol.

Did the doctor really expect me to walk away happy with a general idea of how far along I was and a general idea of my due date??

My first appt went the same freakin' way! To add to the annoyance the doctor told me "1/5 women have a miscarriage, but you're very happy so it won't happen to you" well guess what? It did! I miscarried at 9 weeks. I am probably pregnant right now, and I know exactly who i'm going to for my obgyn exam. If you live in the southern california, orange county, la area I recomend going to the euclid kaiser and seeing Dr. Jean burke. She confermed my miscarriage and was sooo sweet when the other docters had just been so mechanical about it.

Mine was like that too. They did the urine test (which they have to do every appointment) asked some family medical questions, did the pap and then sent me for blood work a couple days later. My doctor didn't even say anything about taking vitamins or things I should or shouldn't do so I guess its a good thing I had some idea or else I would have been left clueless. I'm hoping my second appointment which is in a week is a lot better and a little more informative.
