Reasons For Protein Posted: 10-18-05 21:20pm
Spillage of protien with blood indicate a
hidden kidney disease. However, there are
instance when the membrane lining of the
kidney has thinned and therefore spillage
occurs. The loss of protein results in
deteriorated muscle mass (eventually) so a
low protein diet combined with exercise is
a must until further evidence points to
what your actually dealing with. I also
recommend omega fatty 3 acids and so do
all nephrologists....As it retards
progression of all kidney diseases from
1-3 yrs,,,so why not?
Much hope for you,
kim

Omega 3 And Proteinurea Posted: 06-02-06 06:30am
Does anyone know the recommended daily
dose of omega 3 for protein in the urine?
I have been diagnosed with very, very
high levels of protein in my urine. This
has been an ongoing issue for 28 years,
ever since being treated with chemo for
bone cancer. I get conflicting feedback
from doctors. Many say since it has been
a longterm issue for me, I should live a
normal, healthy life. I had another say,
I will need a transplant in the near
future. However, she did not even
consider my history and only saw me once.
I have marked her as a quack, quack. :)
what is considered "low protein" diet
and you mentioned excercise ... Any
special type?

Much Hope For You All (protein And Its Friends) Posted: 06-02-06 08:22am
:d unfortunately, I just recieved the dx
of multiple sclerosis, even more
unfortunate is the kidneys are a seperate
issue. I cannot believe this! I do have
the optical neuritis (thought one eye was
just weird with the pain), parathesis
(things going to sleep etc) and since
major exacerbation (attack) I now have
moments where my leg drags.
Last week I began feeling a pulled muscle
in the kidney (great sign of infection), I
had some antibiotics and tried to fix
me...Um...Yeah. So it continued and
worsened for 3 days, ending in me
vomitting violently and unable to hold a
sip of water. I have to cath myself daily
as I lost my bladder due to ms (does it
ever end?), and the urine was just hanging
in the cath.
Frequent bathroom trips, small
output.....Er said infection. It was size
10 pain. No stone was found. Upon going
back to my urologist, he said he did not
think it was kidney failure. Although I
have 4 inches of paper saying "iga
neprhopathy" from 8yrs ago while pregnant.
Alports was ruled out. They are now
checking my female organs and will scope
bladder for cysts. I can handle a lot of
pain but not size 10!!!!!!!!! I swoll for
x 1yr like I was preggy, but it is now
listed as "unknown origin",,great :x
so......The reason I typed all this is to
update you all and to let you know that
even though I have ms, I have a seperate
kidney issue. Uro said it did not show
infection. Hint: if youve been on
antibiotics, your readings of infection
will be clouded and not show what it
should. 2 weeks without antibiotics and
you should recieve a clear reading.
Now, he said my kidneys did not appear
smaller. If your close to failure or your
kidney disease has progressed, indeed your
kidneys will appear smaller. He also said
I was not spilling protien beyond 4,000.
I thought it important to mention to you
this number, as when I was in renal
insufficiency while pregnant the protien
was greater than 4,000. We spill the
protien, but please note how much your
spilling. Keeping a chart of the amount
over the years will help you and your
doctor to understand exactly how much it
has or will progress!
Omega 3 is dependent on where you get it.
Local health food stores or walmart will
indicate on bottle the daily amount. This
is all you need. It cannot reverse
anything but it can slow things down.
Exercise of any kind helps you to sweat,
thereby releasing the poision thru the
pores since some of ours is not being
filtered by the kidneys, so the idea is
exercise til you sweat! An alternative
way to remove fluid from body!~~~
please chart your spillage and make it
easy for future doctors to see what your
spilling in 2006, vs 2007.
It is possible to spill protien as I
mentioned before, due to thinning of
membrane lining.
The biggest thing you need to do is find
out your gfr!!!!!!!!! This is your
kidneys filtration rate and will expose
what is going on.
Gfr/creatine/bun,,,,always ask for these
levels, sometimes they forget to mark it
on lab sheets. 24 hr urine tests are the
way to go on this.
It is so hard for me to think this last
thing wasnt kidneys, as it began in the
lower left of my back,,went up my ribs to
beat with my heart,,and then moved to
right side, lower (skipped the spine) and
with vomitting and lack of
output........Im not sure. I have a 24hr
urine to do and im definately going to
find out : gfr and creatine clearance, and
of course the amount of protein.
You may live the rest of your life
noneventful of kidneys other than the
things they find in the urine,
but..........When that quack as you
labeled her, lol, said transplant, let me
say we will never get one, if we do not
document and show the progression and be
on top of things , to point out,,hey doc!
My kidney is appearing smaller than
normal, my protein is now greater than
4,000, etc. Please do not expect them to
find it all on their own. Not unless
these words are coming from a
nephrologist.
I wish you all much success in dealing
with and slowing this disease. They all
have different names but they all affect
the kidneys in pretty much the same way.
Keep check on how yours is progressing!
