I’ve been complaining of moderately
sharp lower back and leg (both) pain for
weeks. I’m starting to get really
worried that it might be something
serious.
Needless to say the word “cancer” (in
all the forms related to your abdomen and
back – there’s too flaming many of
them) is right at the top of the list
bashing me in the ear hole. I keep
reading throughh websites on symptoms and
finding cancers and other conditions that
match my own. Then again i’ve seen the
doctor about six times in the last two
months – all for roughly the same
reasons, so i’m probably coming off as a
hypochondriac. Or maybe it’s
psychosomatic. I don’t know but really,
what are the odds of pain like this being
linked to cancer? I’m only eighteen, so
should I be concerned about this?
Is it possible that I could ask for tests
of some kind, just to set my mind at ease?
Would I be given or does there have to be
a really strong sign of something being
wrong? What kind of tests could I get for
something like this, anyway?
Also, is it possible for you to experience
moderate pain the day your period ends and
possibly the day afterwards? As I think
it might all be linked to this
help is much appreciated (and appreciated
even more the faster it comes) :(

Not to Worry Posted: 09-04-05 12:52pm
I wouldn't worry about it!! It's probably
growing pains. Your body tweaks and
stretches all the time! You're young and
could be still growing. If it upsets you
then go see a doctor but don't self
diagnose and realize it's probably
nothing. "phantom pain" is what it's
called. And yes your body can feel weird
and achey because of your period. I think
you are fine!!

I doubt very much it's growing pains (i'm
eighteen years old and I think I stopped
about last year - too soon if you ask me,
everyone else at school towers over me
>_<) but you're probably right about
the having nothing to worry about. All
the same i'll have to see someone about
it. I'd rather be embrassed for five
minutes and have nothing wrong than worry
about it for months and not do anything.

Well again if it's moderate pain it's
probably nothing. If it's upsetting you
go to a doctor!! I'm 35 years old. I had
horrible anxiety for years (still do
sometimes!) and it manifested itself
physically (usually does). So I became a
hypochondriac and was always in the
doctors office. I actually went to the
emergency room twice! I would much rather
go see a doctor and find out it's nothing
than be embarrassed to go. And as far as
growing pains are concerned, I grew
another inch when I was 21 so it's never
too late. And again your body will
constantly shift and change. Unless you
have other symptoms that coincide with the
pain (fever, dizziness, heart
palpatations, nausea, etc.) I really
wouldn't stress about it.
