Today I was diagnosed with osteoarthristis
of the upper back, neck and shoulders...
I was completely stunned. I am 40 yrs.
Old and never considered arthritis. Let
me tell you, wearing a bra on a daily
basis is a real challenge and is the cause
of daily headaches. The straps cause
irritation on bones/joints which cause
inflammation... Which then cause the
headaches. I am caught between a rock
and a hard place. I've tried strapless
and those cause other problems...Middle
back problems because I do need the
support. I wish to god I could just go
braless! Haha! Seriously, this is no
laughing matter, I am in daily pain.
Does anyone have any advice... Can anyone
relate with this? The only relief I have
is a heating pad, which I do use at work
every chance I get, but the only real
relief I get is to go braless and I can't
do that until I get home..... Please help

Try getting fitted with a proper bra.
That may help

Thanks for the advice san54, but believe
me.... That was my first instinct - I
must have 100 different bras! Different
shapes and sizes, you name it I got it.
Doesn't matter - if it's sitting on my
shoulders it's going to irritate my joints
and cause annoying, painful headaches.

I've seen in woolworths a bra type thing
which comprises of two moulds that fit
over each breast supporting etc., that
would, hopefully, solve the strap over
painful shoulders and straps round your
back.

Well, I cannot relate to the bra problem,
since I am a male... However, I am a 19
year old male, and today I was diagnosed
with upper back arthritis... It is a
major bummer, and I think I am a rare case
at my age... The doctor told me to
increase calcium and dairy product intake,
and to exercise my upper back and
shoulders... He also said to take
tylenol arthritis because it has the least
occurance of upseting your stomach
compared to advil or aleve. Finally, he
told me to look into acupuncture, physical
therapy, or a chriopractor... :-( this
sucks, but sometimes you gotta roll with
the punches...

I know how you feel! Bra straps can be
the devil.
I do not wear a bra! When I do, I get
itchy under the breasts, and I also have
osteo of the neck. So, I have several
very light camisoles that I wear under my
blouses in different colors. They're not
too hot. Maybe I don't have the perfect
uplift and profile. I am not a young
woman--but I understand a lot of those
(younger) do not wear bras. Who made
that rule?

Camisoles are good or just do not wear a
bra and put on a darker type of blouse or
somewhat of a t or sweatshirt that you can
dress-up, if you have an office job or
pull your straps off of your shoulders.
I too have it and it is no fun.
The best to you!

I have just joined this site and read the
message about bra straps - yes a real pain
in the neck!! The only real help would
be to wear a strapless bra but if you want
a bit more support and have a large bust
then obviously you need the straps!!
When i'm on holiday I wear a sarong and
actually wear it indoors as well - it
looks fine and as I am 63 I can assure you
my chest is not where it should be!! But
a sarong seems to make me look pretty
good!! Also I would suggest indian head
massage - it is great for headaches and
any sort of back/neck pain - I am a
qualified masseuse and have a go at doing
it on myself though obviously it's not as
good as having a proper massage. Do try
this if you can it will make you feel
better. Good luck.

Suggestion For Upper Back, Neck, Shoulder Arthritis. Posted: 03-10-07 13:44pm
I have been seeing a chiropractor for over
6 mo, and although I have not received
official diagnosis of osteoarthritis of
upperback, neck, shoulders, I have the
classic symptoms. I have also noticed a
very sore spot under my back bra hook
area.
The disposable heat patches have been a
life saver for me. I place the patches on
the sore areas...usually my upper back and
on top of my shoulders. I use a massager
daily, and this helps me identify the
areas of inflammation.
Dressing in a way that will hide the heat
patches is a little tricky, but I am able
to function at work comfortably.
