Q: 31 Weeks, Baby's Head Already Descending !!!!!!

Aaarrgghgh !!!!

I'm only 31 weeks and my baby's head has already descended into my pelvic cavity.
This is my second baby, and everything i've read says with the first baby, the head descends early, but with second and subsequent babies, it doesn't go there until a week before birth, and sometimes, not until you are actually in labour.

I don't want to have my baby at 32 weeks. Has this happened to anyone else? It's causing me some horrible pelvic and groin pain, and while I don't want the baby to be too early, i'm not sure I can put up with this pain for another 9 weeks either.

What's the earliest a baby can be born without having to have special care? Does anybody know?
My first was born at 36 weeks, so, technicly she was pre-term, but she was ok- she was by my bedside, and came home from hospital with me after 4 days. She didn't have to go in a humidity crib, or be fed by tubes or anything.

Help !!! Should I be worried ?

Actually, first time mothers usually go overdue.
Almost all the girls that used to post here went overdue, unless they had difficult pregnancies.
But to answer you el, im not sure the absolute earliest, but my friends son was born at almost 35 weeks and was on oxygen only very briefly. It also depends on other factors, im sure. But I hope the pain subsides at least a little bit, and you can carry to full term :)

36 Wks
When I went to the hospital at 34 wks they said they baby only weighed 3 pounds and they would try to stop labor then my husbands little sister was born at 26 wks she weighed a pound and 12 oz she is 5 now. She made it! I think 36 wks is when they really won't need much help any earlier they may need a breathing machine. Hopefully they can stop ur labor if u go into labor good luck.

Babies between 37 and 42 weeks are considered full-term; a baby born before 37 weeks is pre-term and after 42 is post-term.

Angel, I will be praying and I dont mean to downplay your worries, I hope to aleviate them some, your 35 weeks, and next week you will be 36, now ive heard both 36 and 37 weeks are full term. You should be fine, most doctors wont stop labor at 36 weeks, because theres no reason to :)

Baby's usually drop 3 different times, 2 months be4, 2 weeks be4, then the day be4. As far as in the birth canal that is good and im hoping that is the most common in all pregnancy's. Whether first second or third. It is a good thing for baby to be down there. My first 6 months and he was in the birth canal already.

Update
I've been to see the midwife (that sounds so medevil)
they said the baby is low, and that is a bit early, and a little unusual, but they can't really say whether it means I will have her early or not.

So that's a big help isn't it !!!!!!!!

I'm nearly 32 weeks now, so if I can just hold on for another 4 weeks, i'll be happy. My fisrt daughter was born at 36 weeks, and she was absolutely fine- so don't worry angel !!! She didn't need oxygen, or to be put in any special care or anything.
She did get a little jaundice, and spent some hours in a special ultraviolet light crib, but apparently lots of babies do that.

I just to want to have this baby any earlier than I had my first, that's all.

Thanks for all the replies though !! Look after yourselves, all you mum's to be !

31 weeks
i'm 31 weeks and the past day and a half now ive been having a lot of pressure in my pelvic region and in my lower back. not only that but ive been having menstrual like cramps and contractions. the contractions and the cramps hurt really bad. yesterday i felt like i had to take go number 2 really bad but at the same time it felt different then that, It hurt so bad I could barely walk. I am not sure whether to be concerned or not, he's still pretty active but there's a lot of pressure in my groin. I've also been feeling like I've wet myself, but I know that I didn't. It just randomly feels wet down there like I did though? Should I be worried, what do I do?

pelvic pressure under 36 weeks
parism if the wetness feels silky then call your OB you may be leaking amino fluid. That happend to me with my third pregnancy. They kept testing the fulid with these blue strips and it came back negative. I have since found out that they are not an active way to test for amino fluids. Best thing is for your OB to do an ultrasound. I'm dealing with a lot of the same pressure issues as you. I feel a lot of anal and pelvic pressure since my daughter became head down at 28 weeks. I will be 31 weeks on Sunday. I do have a history of pre-mature births but I feel safe that I'm almost at the 32nd week. I had two sons born then and they did great as long as the received the steriod shots before birth to help develope their lungs. Most babies lungs are developed at 35 weeks however if they are born to a diabetic mom like myself it takes them longer for their lungs to mature. I really feel the pressure your feeling is your baby is head down now. Baby could come early or your baby could just hang out for awhile. Just be aware of what's going on with your body. Nothing can be done until you start having 4-6 contractions in an hour. My ob goes by six. Ask your ob what he wants you to look for. I usually end up in labor in delivery either on mag or tri to stop the contractions. However with one they couldn't stop my labor at all and the other I had placenta retardation which both required emergency C-sections at 32 weeks. May you have a peaceful and restful pregnancy.
