Question
Posted: 09-11-05 00:58am

I just read a book that made me realize why I have been insecure and I realize that i've drove myself into a apretty deep depressio in the last couple years. I know what thoughts I need to get rid of and I realize how i've been worrying and avoiding things because of fear that I was crazy (due to panic attacks). Although I dont like medication I think I might need it, but my 21st birthday is in a week, and I want to go to the bar with my friends, but your not supposed to drink on meds. Should I just wait to get on them? Will drinking a couple nights reverse the effects of the meds?? Any suggestionswould be greatly appreciated...Thank you

Im not saying drinking is ok while on antidepressents but im on zoloft and I drink at least once a month, now with me it doesnt affect me because I dont notice a difference, if you think you can wait until after you turn 21 then start it then. Good luck to ya! :)

Drinking On Meds

Hey there I hear you on the not knowing thing. But trust me it is fine. You only turn 21 once and I know what I did that night so go for it... And please let me wish you a happy birthday.
Anyway I am on many anti-deppresants and I drink sometime every other weekend. Not always heavy but I do drink and I have encountered no problems. What you might want to try since everyone's body handles not only meds but alcohol in the same manor.. Just have a few one night.. I know that you are under age and I am not condoning the fact of you drinking before 21 but it is better to know than risk your life. So have an older friend comeover and have a boys night at home and drink a few and see what it does to you. I wouldnt want to to go out for your birthday and have a reaction and something horrible happen because of my advice. So do this turn on the patriots game on a sunday and drink a few beers ( or whatever your choice but I suggest starting with something with not alot of alcohol in it) and watch the game and casually drink and see how you handle it......Oh and sorry about the patriots thing I am from nh so I am very partial to my team I would have said the red sox but that didnt go that well for us this year. But good luck and please let me know how it goes>>>>>.

Therapy helps a lot too. So if you're looking to not have to be on meds, you could try therapy first, and if you need meds later, the therapy would still be a good idea. As for the meds, it's better to start treatment as early as possible, but therapy (i know i've said it like 7 times) could help until you've decided to take meds (preferably after your binge-night).
