Why Is Alternative Medicine Looked Down On Posted: 11-30-03 19:07pm
Just wondering what peoples opinions are.
It seem like most doctors will do
anything they can to talk down alternative
treatments. Seems like they can't do
enough to push the pills though. I have
been putting some information together I
run a couple health websites and it is
really crazy how many people are helped by
alternative treatments. I think people
really just need more information

The prescription industry is a
multi-billion dollar one. The doctors get
samples from the drug manufacturers. If
everyone realized the benefits of herbs
and homeopathic medicines which are all
over-the-counter stuff, then who would go
to see the doctor? I am sure some doctors
realize the potential of alternative
therapy, but do they dare promote it and
jeopardize their own profession? I think
not.
There are tons of alternative remedies
which are more effective than allopathic
and have no side effects. But sadly,
these remedies will only be used by those
who believe in them and thats not many as
of yet.
Alternative remedies are more of a
preventive type of thing whereas
prescription drugs are more effective when
the disease has progressed.
I think prescription drugs and alternative
therapy will go hand in hand for a long
time to come....

Practice of Alternative Medicine Posted: 12-22-03 01:32am
Myself Dr. Shriram kanitkar from india
practising in alternative medicine and I
do believe in my stream. I am registered
medical practitioner of the indian board
of alternative medicine where there are
thousand of rmps are doing medical
practice in the field of am and getting
good results as well as support. In fact
some regular modern medical practitioners
also advice such therapies. It is also
observed that a person gets cured with the
help of multi therapies some times and
those turn out to be arditional
treatment.I always strongly recomend
herbal formulations developed by me.I also
recomend far infra red therapy and does
work well even without medicines.

Hey there! I have a chinese doctor who
actively encourages the use of alternative
medicines & therapies.He runs classes
at r local surgery on this topic.I think
some doctors r wary of it cos they dont
think its as well 'tested' as 'normal'
medicines & treatment methods

Some doctors just want to push the pills.
But, there are also doctors who really
are concerned. Alternative medicines can
work, and so can modern medicine. Some
doctors just want to make sure that people
are taking the right steps to getting
better.
If it works for you, go for it. I would
if my doctor couldn't do anything else for
me.

I do believe in alternative medicines,
however be careful of some weirdos out
there who just want your money. If it's
on an infomercial, don't buy it. If it
claims to cure everything, don't buy it.
Don't buy anything that makes no sense to
you. Doctors tend to be against
alternative medicines because many of them
deal in in-concrete mythologies and such.
For instance, acupuncture. Although the
idea of energy flow may be far-fetched,
acupuncture does work for some reason.
The minute sensation of the needles tend
to distract the brain from ulterior pain
and cause it to focus on the world around.
However, many doctors, who tend to be
very logical people, find it hard to get
past the "distasteful" mythology of it.
Then there are the afforementioned idiots
selling strange and unaffective cures.
These "medicines" make doctors
increasingly suspicious of all alternative
medicines. A rule of thumb for
alternative medicines, if it's been
actively around for a long time and
you have a way of talking face to
face with someone that it has helped,
then it might be something to consider.
Just don't be too jaded either way.

Mis-diagnosis In Alternative Med. Posted: 02-24-04 08:33am
Obviously, the doctors might be concerned
about a misdiagnosis, in which case all
the alternatives in the world won't help.
I think there is evolving a balance
between allopathic and alternative
medicine. Obviously both sides can go to
extremes. However, doctors do take the
hippocratic oath and therefore should look
to hippocrates himself who was a great
practitioner of alternative medicine
(diet, exercise, climate).
