Hello. I am only 16 years and this really
worries me. One time I smoked weed, and
it was a bad decision. I had a really bad
reaction and my heart started pounding. I
thought I was going to die. I know this
is wrong, but please read.
To get to the main point of the story, two
weeks later. I was going to bed, and I
felt my heart beating abnormally hard. It
worried me, and I couldnt sleep. I let it
go on for a few days, and it would really
pound hard sometimes. It seemed sometimes
like it would pound more when I stood up,
then sat down. I was scared, so I went to
the doctor. The doctor told me its most
likely anxiety, and to lay off on the
caffeine. If that did not help it, then
call back. I called back 3 weeks later,
as it still did it. He scheduled me a
cardiologist, and I went and visited her.
At this point, it did it much less, but it
still pounded. She told me it was also
most likely anxiety, because my ekg or
whatever looked good, and my heart sounded
healthy. At the time, my blood pressure
was somewhat high. It was around 130/80,
which is high for somebody my age. She
told me it was stress, because my
grandfather had just died. She told me to
just relax, and if it kept going on, call
back. It kept going on, but not as bad.
I hoped it would go away, but it didnt. I
called for another doctors appointment,
because my blood pressure might still be
high.Sometimes I get chest pains, but
there not too bad. I got it checked, and
it was. It ranges from 130-150/80-90. It
is somewhat high for a kid.
Now heres the question, could all of this
be caused by high blood pressure? Or
could this high blood pressure be due to
something wrong with my heart. Could
smoking have had something to do with it
all, since it did somewhat start with
that? Please help!

I just went through the same exact thing.
This year was my very first year in
college, and I stayed in the dorms. 2
months later,
I made a bad decision, smoked, had the
heart pounding away and went to the
hospital coz I thought something was
wrong. After a ton of blood tests and
Ekg's, after 2 days in the hospital they
gave me a beta blocker which stopped my
pounding. They even did a detox coz I told
them about the bad decision, and nothing
even showed up on the test.
A week later after being around weed smoke
for some reason my heart started it again,
and I went to the hospital again which
they gave me meds and gave me a heart
monitor to wear for a day and sent me
home, which didnt show anything wrong. I
also had random adrenaline rushes at this
time too. After that I had my first
official panic attack and was freaked out
coz of that and felt so out of my self and
scared to even sleep! I had those for a
couple months, along with the adrenaline
rushes for the first month.
I also found out that I have high blood
pressure- which does not run in our
family, but anxiety does.
I had to leave college and Im at home and
Ive done a million tests on everything to
see what the high blood pressure is from,
which have all come out negative!!! Im on
BP meds, but none for anxiety which I am
considering going on, because I got a
massage one time and after I was really
relaxed, I took my blood pressure which
went almost back to normal.
I really think all of this is from anxiety
and that my blood pressure will go down
once I start some anxiety treatment.

This happened to me lately too and once in
awhile before that. My heart pounds
heavier and faster than normal even when
I'm sitting down relaxed. But these
episodes goes away and then comes back
once every while during the day. Also
these incidences go away for me after 2-4
weeks and then would come back again
probably on average once a year or more.
As of now, my BP is also high for someone
my age (23) and I do not consume too much
junk food or fast food and haven't at all
for the last month, yet my BP is still
high. I usually get around 135/95 range. I
also gets headache, which is a symptom of
high BP. However, I do not smoke or
anything and am only an occasional
caffeine drinker. In terms of anxiety, the
heavy heart pounding and heart rate is one
of the symptoms of anxiety. But according
to a doctor I saw and during some
research, anxiety alone DOES NOT cause
high BP. For the heart pounding, as of
now, it seems like it's starting to
subside for me. But the high BP is still
as high as ever as of right now. I just
took a blood test and awaiting results and
hopefully that will give me some answers.

Yea dude the hear pounding things will go
away as the anxiety goes away. Just try to
ignore that coz It happened to me too,
your heart isnt really pounding too much
more than normal, its just that you are
noticing it more. The doctors say that it
does not cause high BP, but anxiety
actually does cause an increase in your
blood pressure, which can throw off the
readings. Im still on blood pressure meds,
but I really dont think I need them, I
think my blood pressure is just higher
when I take it because I get really
nervous about what the reading will be.
They gave me a tonnn of blood tests to see
if there are adrenal tumors and stuff
without finding anyhting. I even got a cat
scan with nothing, and a ton of stuff on
my heart. I really think that anxiety does
cause high blood pressure because its only
natural when your body is on edge to
increase its blood pressure. There are
some great articles out there too.
