Sticky Situation, I Need Advice Posted: 09-15-05 16:06pm
Now this is about a really good friend
(not myself) but I really want to help
her...(i'm a guy, but not a
boyfriend)...
Anyway, I went on a travel program with my
camp, and made many friends. One of them,
I unfortunately didn't meet until there
were 3 days left, but we became great
friends along with a few other people.
Now I unfortunately had to go home and
work when they all went to camp and had a
great time. But that isn't the
point...She told me that she has suffered
from depression before because of a lot of
family trouble, but she was fine on travel
and at camp.
Also while on travel, she had a boyfriend,
who mistreated her in many ways. She
eventually dumped him by the end of
travel, but he travels down to where she
lives every so often. She's freaked out
enough at him to put hurricane shutters on
her window...
She also says that she's starting to get
depressed again (she used to cut herself)
because of being scared of her x and
missing us so much. But as a good friend,
I don't want her to do anything harmful to
herself again.
Unfortunately, she lives in florida and I
live in new jersey, so there isn't much I
can do directly. She says she's seen
psychiatrists but they don't help. I'm
visiting her over christmas time, but i'm
scared she's going to do something
drastic.
Please, is there anything I can do to help
her? Thank you.
Sadly there is little you can do being so
far away :( you will just have to make
sure she knows you will be there for her
and love her unconditionally. You will
have to try your best to keep her alive
till christmas time. I have
schizophrenia and it can really get out of
hand sometime so my boyfriend who is 2
hours drive away brought me a puppy and
having that puppy knowing he cares about
me really helps me not do anything stupid.
Maybe buy her a gift for her to be able
to hug and squeeze when she feels down and
remind her she has someone who cares. I
really hope she takes care of her self :(
and you aswell

Thanks for your reply, but somehow, I
actually managed to really cheer her up.
She's happy again, and hopefully she wont
fall into another depression.

Omg I spoke too soon. Wow I can't believe
my luck. She had four dogs, but the other
day, her favorite one died. This isn't
gonna be easy....
