I was wonderin how many of you are takin calcium pills along with your prenatels?? My doc is nice and everything but to be honest she has never once advised me on what I need to do or not do. She has neer asked me about my diet or even mentioned calcium pills. She really isnt too informative. She just walks in and runs her tests then she tell me about the results. Am I expecting too much or ....?? I know I probably need to step it up a knotch and ask her more but the truth was I had no clue what to ask how to ask or when to ask. Im I first-timer and I guess I just thought i'd get a mini crash course or even just get pointed in the right direction. Good thing my mom cares enough to inform me of the dos and donts.
Well let me know what you think???

I was told I drank too much milk and had to cut down, so I never took calcium pills. I also only started my prenatals when I was about 3 1/2months cause they made me sooooooooo sick at the begining I was on diclectin (anti barf meds) I also took an iron supplement because I have/had soemthing called vonwillebrans (a bleeding disorder that seems to have reversed itself during my pregnancy)

I think they would be good for the babe, but I am no dr and I never heard of someone taking them be4 while preg. So I myself would seek medical advice on it.

I have to take calcium pills plus vitamens plus iron pills. I have always had to do that. I am animec. But on top of that I was on the lupron shot and it caused me to go through a stage of menipause. I will have to do it again after I have the baby.

Usually prenatals alone do the trick.

Too much can cause harm to your baby!!! Stick with the prenatals only!! Unless your Dr. Tells you other wise

Thank you so much ladies for all your advice. I think ill just stick to the vitamins for now and ill ask her about it on the 28th when I go in for labwork. Now what about the part about her being informative??
Is it just me or did I just expect too much outta my doctor? Do your doctors ask you guys how you have bene doing or did they ever mention any shred of lite on the dos and donts.

Let me know!!

Calcium
I actually heard it's not good to take it, as it can cause the baby's bones to harden early, and they need to be soft for birth.
I'm not sure how accurate that is, but i'm glad you've decided to stick with the pre-natals only.
I don't see a doctor, I see midwives, and they'll be there at the birth, so i'm in a different situation pre-natal care-wise. My trouble is I can never think of anything to ask while i'm seeing them, only afterwards!!!!

It's good to make a list of things you are concerned about when you think of it, and bring it to each appopintment- try to make sure you get answers to as many as you can.

I always met with a nurse first and she would ask all the questions. But like el said make a list before hand to ask.

My doc was informal on my last baby I figured if she saw somthing that needed attention she would speak up. I'm anemic ( or how ever you spell that) while i'm pg, though I still am atm... But anyway most of my appointments where:

nurse... Blood pressure ( low most of the time), pee test, weight, and if I had any questions.

Doctor... Baby heart beat and if I had any concerns.

I was in and out with in 10 mins after iwas taken back to a room.

My middle 2 I was with a clinic ( never wanted to do that again), and they were more stressed out then I was when I was pg with my first and takeing care of her. They called me back did a pee test, they listened to the heart beat then they would leave not one word no do you have any qestions or anything. Then since I carryed small ( more in my back then front.) they made me take stress test and have an u/s 2 times a week. I was stressed just knowing they were doing that to me. Then I asked them when I was around 37 weeks to check and see if I was dialated and they said no we will do that next week. I knew I was contracting from the machines they were hooking me up to all the time. But anyway they wanted to stop me from having her until see was 40 weeks atleast. They oviously didn't care, when I told them I was dialating and I know I am and if they really wanted to stop me form having her they needed to see. Well needless to say that weekend I was in the hospital with a 6 lb, 18 in baby girl. They were sooo shocked about that. I hated that... I swore that I would never do a clinic again... Just too much stress...
But if you do have any questions I would ask... Unless theres anything to report form the doctor she/he might not really do too much....

Just like you it's also my first time.

I did not take any calcium pills but I do drink a glass of milk everyday. My dr only prescribed me to take folic acid and that's it. I read in a pregnancy related site that self medication is a no no. I suggest you tell your doc what you were taking and maybe he/she will advise you if it's still necessary for you to take it. When in doubt, ask your doc. Your doc is the best person to advise you on your pregnancy concerns.
