Losing Weight After Having a Baby Posted: 09-21-05 16:13pm
I'm 19 years old 5'6 about 170lbs. I just
had a baby in july (two months ago) and so
far i'v only lost about 20lbs. My stomach
is so flabby and I feel that with breast
feeding I should have lost more weight by
now. I gained 35lbs during my pregnancy
by the way. Does anyone have any advice
on how to lose weight quickly after having
a baby? My self disapline isn't the
greatest either..Can anyone help me with
that?

Keep Trying Posted: 10-04-05 10:31am
Here is the post I made to another entry.
Hope this helps.
I had twins 6 mos ago. I gained 57 pounds
w/ the twins, lost 22 before I left
hospital. I have 9 pounds to go to get to
pre-pregnancy weight. I also have a 3
year old and was able to get down to 8
pounds below my pre-pregnancy weight
before getting pregnant with the twins.
My secret has been jazzercise. It
includes aerobic and strength training.
Strength training helps you build muscle
which helps your body burn more calories
when you are not exercising.
My suggestion is find some form of
exercise you find fun and do it 4 times a
week. Consistency is the key. When you
enjoy your workout, it's easier to get in
that 4 times a week. I am not a very
disciplined eater, but as I see the weight
coming off I am getting better. I have
moved from "i can't have that" to "that is
the enemy of my progress!!"
keep going! There is no easy fix! You
can do it though, little by little.
Remember, it took time to gain the weight
and it will take time to safely lose it .

Thanks so much shelly!!! Twins...I can't
even imagine!!! I work at a gym so I get
to work out for free...It's just so hard
to get motivated. I have been working out
here 3 to 4 days a week. It's curcuit
training so you have to keep moving...It
gets your heart rate up. I know what you
mean about not being a disiplined eater.
I sit at home with my son untill about 2
in the afternoon until my husband gets
home and I go to work. I get so bored and
just eat. I'v been doing better though, I
buy those lean frozen dinners and eat
those for lunch and fruit for snacks.
It's hard though when my husband has junk
food in all the cabinets!!! Lol!!! Well
thanks for the advice!!! Good luck with
your children and your weight lose!! Let
me know how you are doing and any tips you
come up with would be helpful.
Thanks,
teresa

Hr Monitor Posted: 10-04-05 15:43pm
Have you ever looked into a heart rate
monitor? I have recently purchased one
and have been amazed at how they can help
you guage your exercise intensity to
target fat burning!! Check out this
link:
i paid $90 for my hr monitor. Its a
timex and it can measure time in your own
personal target zone and alarm when you
are working outside of that zone based on
your hr.
Just an idea. Good luck to you!

Re: Hr Monitors Posted: 10-04-05 17:22pm
It works by first determining your max
heart rate. There are a few different
ways to do that. The least accurate is
to take 220 minus your age. The second
most accurate involves incorporating your
resting heart rate to take into account
your fitness level and physiology. The
third way involves using a hr monitor and
test yourself with some exercises and see
what your hr does.
Once you determine your max hr, then you
work at a given percentage of your max hr
to maximize fat burning or calorie burning
in general. You actually work at a lower
intensity to burn fat than to burn
carborhydrates. Working at 60-70%
intensity burns the most fat. Working
harder than that decreases the fat you are
burning relative to the amount of
carbohydrates.
