How Can I Let Them Help Me? Posted: 10-02-05 03:02am
Hey, I was wondering if you had any advice
for me. I've had my ed for about 10
months and have just realised that I need
to recover, the thing is i'm not sure I
can. I asked my parents to be really
strict on me and make me eat certain
things but then when they do I have a
strop and they give up trying to make me.
It's not that I think them making me eat
is an easy way out, it's just reasurring
to know that they care. I also can't seem
to stop myself lying to them about what I
eat, I hate myself for it but I can't
stop.
My friends finally figured out what was
going on last week and sent a letter home
to my parents telling them that they were
going to start making me eat at school.
This sucks, school's been the one place
where no one bugged me about what I eat,
now that's being taken away too. I really
don't know what to do, the thought of
recovering is so scary at the moment, any
advice for me? Thanks in anticipation.

I Have a Similar Question & Would Really Appreciate Help Posted: 10-02-05 08:20am
I've had bulimia for a few years now. I
told my boyfriend and he is very
supportive. He wants to help, but I
don't know what he can do that will work.
He worries all the time & watches me
everytime I use the bathroom...Which is
only making things worse for me. I know
he loves me & I would love him
help...But i'm not sure in what ways he
should be involved.
Advice?
Thank you!

Focusing on the food is never helpful, as
it's not about the food. Personally, I
believe that if it hadn't been for the
support and help of my therapist, I would
not be where I am today. I sincerely
believe that seeking professional help is
paramount to recovery.

Hey Posted: 10-05-05 02:05am
Congrats on wanting to recover. Im a
bulimic for under a year, but still, I too
know how frusterating it is. Let your
friends know that although you love and
care for htem, and want them a part of
your life, its your eating disorder and
your the only one that can do this, and
you want them there because you value the
ways that only they can support you.
Good luck

Thanks, I know, I do want them to help me
but it's like everything they do/say -
even though they think they're doing the
best for me (and they probably are), is
the wrong thing! It's the same with my
parents, I guess i'll just have to talk to
themand explain to them how i'm feeling,
thanks for the advice.
