I’m sure you have plenty of reasons you want to quit smoking weed. Going without weed for 6 months is a very positive thought and that should give you hope and confidence that you have to power to quit. I would suggest taking baby steps; marijuana is, in my opinion, not a very harmful drug. This is why I am not suggesting serious drug rehab treatment. You should try by going every second day without weed, do this for a few weeks, then bump it up to every 3 days, smoke a joint, to calm yourself, and then go 3 more days. Do this until you can go 3 days easily. You may look forward to the third day when you get to smoke, that’s good. Now bump it to 4, then 5, then try to get once a week. It might take 6 months to be able to just smoke once a week, but once you reach that point, it should be easy for you to make the final step.

If this method doesn’t work for you, try removing yourself from situations that make you want to smoke weed. Tell your friends that you’re serious about quitting and you want them to support you. Tell your family, tell anyone that you smoke weed with that you are serious and you want there support. Find other things that make you happy to do when ever you feel like smoking a joint. For example, if you like to play foot bag, then when you feel like smoking a joint, instead, say to yourself, "i am strong, I am in control, I want to be happy, and quitting weed is going to make me happy" take the foot bag, and go play, keep your mind off weed.

You can also look up other methods of beating an addiction. Edit

Need Help I Got It

Im 13 listen to me or dont im pretty shure I know what im talking about here. Look just say no! Thats the first step tell your self that your done forever and you will never do it again!. Than you have to stay away from everyone who dose it with you or around you witch seems to be like everybody do this for about 2 weeks or as long as you can. Then they will know somthing is up and going on the bring it to thier attention that you are quiting and never doing it again tell them to never give/sell it to you again. Now I dont know about your friends but my friends would do the following. Not listen to a word think im kidding and try to stick the pipe in my mouth, totaly understand and not do it, say that you cant ever quit and alost make you loose all self confadence, and some will not hang out with you any more. Bring it to thier attention and dont do anything in the process of telling them if you do they will totaly not listen to you if you bring it up ever again and you will be more prone to do it. After that find things that will help you in the process of quitting (a hobby) like for me I am trying computer programing and animation because they take time and need your attention and focas. Thoughs things will help you alot but there is not anything physical you can do to quit because its all mental you have to convice your self you dont need it. Now all this brings me to one of my recent discoverys weed (marijuana) has been causing lots of my friends and me to get add. My brother says that you are born with add but I compleatly disagree. So if you cant or have a hard time focasing then go get tested to get adderall or somthing that works for you (that pill some how will also boost your self confadence a bunch from what iv felt now from when I tryed to quit without adderall). Hope you quit - nick selleck

I got a suggestion... Its kinda farfetchced but its gauranteed to work. Smoke a joint and ride with your windows down at stoplights untill you get pulled over, then when you goto court they will give you probation. Then you get piss tested randomly and if you fail you goto jail! Nobody wants to goto jail lol.

Weed is not such a bad thing, I was unaware it could be habit forming though.

The only advice I can offer you is to quit on your own. Smoking weed isnt a chemical addiction, its a mental one (unless your stuff gets laced with something). You have to tell yourself "look, I dont need this I want it"

last time I smoked weed was new years. I basically asked myself what really was the point of smoking it?

I know its an addiction but just say to your self....

Why am I doing this ?

Find something else to ease the pain like bubble gum or something.

And its best to stay away from people who do it... Or kindly ask dont do it near me please , if they are true friends they will listen

This is my first post here and I have to say, from reading the other replies in this thread, it is absolutely absurd for someone to say that weed isn't really harmful, that its not a real drug therefore they don't recommend rehab. Obviously these peole have never been addicted to it...They have never used it heavily for an extended period of time. Marijuana is absolutely destructive if used excessively! Take my word on this people. It may not physically kill you like cocaine or heroin, but it will slowly take away everything you have emotionally and mentally!!! Unless you have been accustomed to using it as regulary as you eat and drink, you should not say that its simple to quit...Just say no...Chew gum, etc. In my case, i've been smoking all day every day for the last 7 years...Adding up to 14+ grams in less than 6 days if i'm alone...With my friend, it goes up to that much in a single night! Mix that in with a couple bottles of beer every day, and its a lethal mix! To say that it's not a real drug, and it doesn't do much a harm is simply put, crazy! Anything in excess is potentially lethal, and when you get used to something all the time, you expect that feeling all the time, it becomes the norm. My friend for example, can't go to the bathroom anymore unless he smokes a joint right before...I can't go out in public without sunglasses anymore...My eyes look like hell to say the least! In excess, even this 'recreation' drug will no doubt kill you slowly but surely! Be sure you know what your saying before saying it...Because it sure doesn't sound like most are speaking from experience. Most who are seeking to quit here are longtime and heavy users...Its an extremely difficult task...Mainly because you don't know what to do with the time you now have on your hands...The time you usually spend high...In which case anything can tie you down, and time just flies by! Now time is moving at a snail's pace...What to do???

I must agree with the wizard. I have also been smoking weed for a long time. Around 5 years and I am trying my harderst to quit now, before it gets any worse. I must say, it is very difficult to keep this up and believe me chewing gum isn't going to help.

However I have found something that helps me with my daily urges...
A hot bath and a long nap afterwerds....Usually when I wake up I feel less inclined to smoke. This may help some.
Bottom line, its a hard road to recovery...And its not going to be easy.

Wizard Is Spot On.

I have to agree with wizard. I don’t think any of you are speaking from having used the drug long term and heavily. I have smoked weed for 4 years and frequently went through stages of smoking 3-6 joints a day. I might include it was only skunk as well, which brings me to my next point.
Skunk/green/hash/homegrown etc is a lot worse than sput/solid/brown.
I smoked solid first and then got into skunk as my friend had loads of money all the time..Hey..We could afford it. Then we got jobs and started buying a hell of a lot more. I believe skunk is substantially worse as it affects your brain (in simpler words) and has far more thc; the main damaging substance in cannabis. I have quit again but this time instead of cutting down, I quit while heavily addicted.
It has been surprisingly easy actually but I believe this is mainly down to my chosen hobbies. Which brings me to my last point.

If you wanna quit then you are obviously interested in your health. So why not embrace that urge or whatever it is and do things to improve your physical condition. I find learning new things that you could dedicate yourself to a good way to quit as you need to concentrate and no doubt your mind will re-adjust after a while..As mine has.
If you are trying to quit please I urge you to embrace the reasons why and understand your health is the most important thing in your life.
Thanks for reading.

Ive been smoking for 5 years coming onto 6, im now 19 and have pissed away my prime youth. I so want to quit, have made many attempts stretching from 2 days to a month :(.
Ive love martial arts, particularly chi kung and tai chi, but always end up on the weed again.

There is nothing more in this world I want more than to stop, but I can't and I dont know why.
I was thinking of sitting down, and kind of meditate on the why fores and the whats etc, dunno is anyone has done this before.

But no matter, I can't. I think this is mainly down to have my entire social circle smoking it. Seeing as most have left for uni far away.
Im ranting now, needed to vent some things in an appropriate environment.

Help me, anyone?

i used to smoke pot everyday it was something that I loved to do but I knew that I wanted to quit so I decided to try a kind of therapy used by the ancient mayans to become more divine. Its called psychodelic therapy and I quit smoking *1* day after I induced myself into this temporary state and have never had the urge to smoke again. Psychodelic therapy is the use of psychodelic drug such as mushrooms and lsd (i used 'shrooms, most likely the preferred method). I took a fairly low dose of the mushrooms about 2.5 g's drank some orange juice and just sat in my room with some chill music on. I started to trip roughly about a half hour later. Your mind starts racing you just meditate (with eyes closed) and you will begin to ponder what kind of a person you are and how you can improve your own life. It also helps if you are alone because social interaction will cut off the realization of subconscious thought which is trying to be heard. I also did the classic "long hard look in the mirror" which really let me "see" myself and who I was becoming and new that that wasn't me. I would also advise to start out with a relatively low dose, (you want to be aware enough of you true state of mind while also being able to dabble in the "realm") I weigh around 125 and ate 2.5 g, also do not eat any caps of the mushrooms and only injest mushrooms containing psilocybin *(mushrooms like amantia muscaria or toadstools can cause extreme naseau and bad trips)*. Also do not eat 'shrooms that have mold on them the might contain bacteria which can make you very sick! Although there are risks it is relatively safe and effective. I was able to induce psychodelic therapy on myself the very first time I every used the drugs. If you are unable to induce yourself to this state then I would wait a couple days maybe even a week before trying it again if you are serious about it. You may want to do some of your own research before trying this. It really helped me out a ton, I have been clean for over 3 months now because of it. It works!

I hope this helps,
kword

p.S.
Pm me if you decide this is an option you are willing to take

This is silly. Its not weed that\s addictive, its your basic lack of responsibilty, defending your shortcomings by blaming it on ganj. If you cant even live in moderation, while ppl can manage (with pain) to get off heroine, then... Well...
I guess I don't have to beat the point out with a baseball bat.

Im not sure if that made sense, because I am stoned now, after a week of smoking that followed a three day smoking sess. Which came after a month of not smoking. Weed that is.

Lets Not Be Ignorant, Shall We?

I have smoked weed for almost 20 years, here's my experiences with effects and quitting: marijuana is not physically addictive, but it is very psycologically addictive. The difference is in your own will-power. It is not a harmful substance if used in moderation. But there-in lies the problem.....Moderation is difficult when you enjoy something a lot.
That was my problem. I enjoyed it too much, so I smoked it too much.

Smoking a joint once a day, maybe with a drink or two will not harm you. It will actually lower stress levels, but it must be done after your responsibilities are taken care of. The kids are asleep, your house is clean, work is over......Smoke up!
The health problems associated with moderate marijuana use are no worse than the everyday factors of air pollution. If you are 'brainwashed' into thinking that a pot smoker will eventually start using harder drugs, please start thinking for yourself and stop listening to the remnants of nancy reagan and dare.

The individuals who post comments like "just say no" and "marijuana is the gateway to more serious drugs" obviously don't know what they are talking about and are just repeating what they have been told.

The united states government is one of the largest causes of drug addiction in the world. Politics (unfortunately repulican) have controlled the use and abuse of drugs. The more they "disallow" it, the more the problem will rise. Legalize and regulate it and it will become just another plant. The usa will not do that because there are too many facets to make money on the illegal side of it. If the us controlls it, they controll all money associated with it. If it is legal, it goes into the hands of the farmers (the backbone of this country) and it will become a typical cash entity like milk, tobbaco, or barly.

If you don't believe this, go to a country that tolerates marijuana, spend some time there. Look at their rape rates, gun crimes, robberies and dui rates. They are all lower than the us.

well I have smoked pot for awhile and stop. Then caca happens as they say and you just want to smoke. It comes and goes somedays things just can get under your skin. Weed isn't very harmful if anything it gives you the munchies, makes you laugh, and you can get pretty damn stoned. Try to chew gum, watch movies, play video games. Or something else. In the small town I happen to live in there isn't that much to do here. I hope you can stop since you want to, and good luck.

My boyfriend and I have stopped smoking. We have just started getting on the internet more and enjoying each other and our dogs more. Just live life alittle and try to have some fun.

Good luck to you :d

Read allen carr's easy to stop smoking. Just substitute joints for cigarettes, and pot for tobacco. Read the book in that light and you will be able to quit pot easily.

If it does not work, you have lost nothing really. Just the cost of a book. But dont trust me, just do a net search and a yahoo questions search on the guy.

Quitting Weed Aint Easy For Some...
Posted: 01-31-07 18:26pm

Well, it seems some of you in here hand out honest and sometimes valid advice on addiction.I 've been smoking weed for 8 years now.The last 7 years I have smoked atlest 2-3 joints a day. Its been hard for me to quit it, smoking a joint for pleasure quickly becomes smoking a joint when ever you feel stressed, just cause your bored, life simply sux when its always cold and gloomy-stuff like that makes so hard to give up the comfort zones that we have built around the weed.I am 27 years old and I just want to move in life. Doesnt really make me high as before either.

Atleast now, I am trying to work on replacing my time with some physical activity like hitting the gym after work. doing it work is more stressfull than anything else, since I have a job that I am not passionate about I guess I just feel miserable at work and cant wait to get home and light up joint and chill. See wat I am saying, the caca aint easy but I gotta rescue my ship somehow. Weed has cost me dearly in finance, health and potential along with the anxiety it has given me.

Take care all,
gavin

Harder Than I Thought
Posted: 02-09-07 13:26pm

For all these years I had myself convinced that I didn't "need" to smoke weed. Now being faced with a drug test to work for the government, 2 days ago I finally stopped after smoking everyday since 1996. Now I am 26, 11 years after I started blazing everyday, and I can't seem to break from the "psychological" needs of thc. My first night without blazing before going to sleep was a literal nightmare. I had crazy dreams all night, could barely sleep a wink, and woke up in an awful mood. If I hadnt had my g/f take everything inthe house and lock it up in our safe, I would have definitely blazed by now.
I think that knowing I was smoking the highest grade nuggs not only increased my love for it, but also got me rediculously high without smoking much- because I had cut down to only packing my "one-ies" I though these days would be much easier- to my dismay I was very wrong and this is probably the hardest thing I have ever had to do. I just ordered a 4day detox program which includes foot pads that leach toxins out of your body- anyone have any experience with these pads?
