Q: Morning Sickness

Hello to all, I am about 9 weeks pregnant and having a really rough time with my 'morning' sickness. A few weeks ago when I took the gravol I was sure that it was working but now this week it doesn't I seem to be so sick all the time. I remember with my daughter, now 11 , that I was sick for the whole 9 months and that was so rough on me. I have always been told that no two pregnancies are alike so I truily did not expect to be sick with this one either. Everyone keeps telling me that it wil settle down after the first 12 weeks but I am dying slowly in the mean time.
Is there anything that can help aleviate it as I am at my wits end. I want to eat, but everything I eat just seems to come back up. I have been reduced to ginger ale, nuts and biscuits, some fruit and yougurt, that's it!!!! Yesterday was really bad, and it left my throat & my stomach feeling really sore and raw. I just sleep becuz I feel so weak and life less and I don't go anywhere becuz I fear that I am going to just spill my jollies all over the place, even to drive in the car is a chore :(
i don't know what else to do at this point. I am living like a hermit and my stomach is just always so upset. I really need some help here. I am not enjoying this time at all.
My doctor tells me that I shud be happy, 'morning' sickness usually means that the placenta is developing properly and therefore securing an mormal pregnancy, and although that does make me feel gud to a point, becuz I had two miscarriages last year, the point is that I don't like feeling so sick all the time.
Help!!!!

I know how you feel. I am 11 weeks and I have been having all this morning sickness, nausea and having a hard time keeping things down. Even though I get really hungry.

After taking my maternal vitamins I seem to get more nausea for some reason, so I started taking them at night.

Fruit, lots of fruit has really helped me, and chicken or beef soup, although I have a hard time eating the chicken and the beef, I usually just eat the veggies.

Keep resting if you feel tired and weak. Your body is asking for it since it's working so hard. Hopefully you don't have to put up with this through the whole pregnancy.

I have also heard of some type of bracelet or something that is supposed to help with nausea and I have also read something about listening to some tapes while you sleep to help you out with this but I don't know much about it. Maybe someone else here does.

Good luck!

Sorry to hear your having such a bad time, I had morning sickness from 6 weeks to about 13 weeks, only threw up a few times, but felt sick all day everyday, felt so bad, that I was wishing that I could just throw up and be done with it, but i've heard that thats just as bad!

I was told to eat ginger biscuits or anything with ginger in it, I ate the biscuits and it did help to callm my stomach, but obviously the affect won't last all day :?
Also heard flat coca cola helps, and I definatly felt worse on an empty stomach, so I think even if u manage fruit etc, just to keep u going, it should be ok.
The only thing that I found that really really helped was lemon!, strange I know, haven't read or heard anyone mention lemon when talking bout morning sickness, but it helped me alot, I used to boil some hot water, squeeze half a lemon into the cup (or however much u like), add a spoonful (or 2) of sugar and add the water. Even eating stuff with lemon like salad or fresh white fish etc helped me eat.
U can try it, dunno if it will work for u, but it really helped me.

Anyway hope you feel better soon, keeping fingers crossed that this pregnancy is better then your last!!

When I was a little girl I remember being on a boat and I was sea sick. My mother told me to suck on a piece of lemon and it helped.

I have heard of warm water with drops of lemon in it and no sugar added, although, I heard that this was good for pregnant women who were having constipation.

Congratulations on your pregnancy! I hope everything turns out fine for you and the baby. I'm lucky I didn't get much morning sickness but when I did start to get that feeling, I would eat before it got too bad. Saltines and rice cakes were the main things that helped me. If you let yourself get too hungry, the morning sickness will probably get worse.
Best wishes to you.

I'd just like to thank all of you for your advice, and I realise that it does get worse once I don't eat.I think the only thing that I probably haven't tried to be honest is the lemon, so I might try that. My mum bought me some peppermint tea the othe day and I find that helps, but only for a while {sigh}. Well, one can only hope that it will ease after the first 12 weeks. I just hope that I don't have to go thru another pregnancy like with my first daughter, that was a killer, yet she was such a big baby {8lbs; 15ozs} that always surprises me :).
Anyway, i'll let you guys know how it's going after my doctor visit next week wednesday. I have also heard that 'morning' sickness is always worse when you are carrying twins, and the way I look righgt now, anything is possible, and my doctor was concerned about another sac he saw, so I don't know. But i'll keep you gys posted for sure, and thanks once again for everything.

you didn't say how far along you are. But at any rate you shud be careful about lifting stuff that is too heavy, and any kind of chairs, unless they are those little plastic chairs that the babies sit on, I don't really think that you shud be lifting stuff like that.
You shud probably as your doctor, but you still need to be carefully.
