Hey everyone. Ive finally got apointment for a scan itz in 2 weeks time. It says gynae scan. So does any one know what kind of a scan this will be. It also says to drink 1.5 litres an hr before and not to go to the loo 2 hrs prior to scan. Then it says the ultrasonographer will not tell me the results on the day and that I have to wait a week. So im just wondering that if it was gona be a normal tummy scan to see I am preg. Would'nt I get a pic of the scan on the day..... Im just verrrry confused

All I can say is that when I had a scan and I was asked to drink all that water it was a regular ultrasound I wouldn't know why you wouldn't get the results but you can always ask to see or just peek at the screen while they are doing this. They usually let you see the screen.

I had a vaginal scan done also and that one requires that your bladder is empty

Fanx for that. It was when I seen it written that the ultrasonogragher was goin to be the one doing the scan... I got scared that it was the viringal scan I don't mind it but id rather have the normal scan first with the picture then the internal scan I needed.

Is there any chance that when I go for my scan that they will do an internal scan? And would that be ok to have even if I have a full bladder/or will they do that another day?

Hi,

the ultrasonographer will be doing an abdominal ultrasound - I don't think they will do the internal scan if you are correct about the stage of your pregnancy - 3 months.

If you do have to have the internal scan it's nothing to worry about, it only takes one minute and it shouldn't hurt. In early pregrenancy - when you go for your abdominal scan sometimes if the bladder is not full enough then the ultrasonographer will ask to do a internal instead. You will be asked to empty your bladder before an internal scan is performed.

Usually the ultrasonographer will give you your results because they are trained in reporting scans. Ask if you can have a picture - sometimes you have to pay for the picture at some hospitals.

Take care.
