Ok, I used to get chapped lips everyday
when I had braces, thats like 6 years ago
and counting, well on thursday the side of
my lip cracked, then after being outside
for like 45 minutes at a funeral on
saturday, the weather conditions were like
40 degrees, rainy, and very windy, my
entire lips began to chap, and scab over,
I put some vasoline lip balm on them but
it didnt work, and carmex, I think the
menthol made it worse cause it was
burning, do I have something other then
chapped lips, its monday and they show no
signs of going away, I dont have health
insurance so I dont really wanna go to the
dermatologist unless the problem doesent
go away, I also have seborrhea dermatitis
o rwhatever its called, but im not taking
any medication for it, I can control it
99% of the time, what do you guys think
happened?

Sounds like you may have an infection.
Its probably nothing serious, however,
there are a number of things that can
cause dryness of skin/chap lips. Diet
directly reflects our apperance, or should
I say, our apperance directly reflects our
diet and health. That being said, you
might not be drinking enough water, so
increase you water intake to atleast 8
250ml glasses of water each day, make sure
you are eating a well balanced diet(try to
follow the canada food guide) and make
sure you are not taking excess vitamin a,
this can cause severe dry skin and chapped
lips.
One major problem with people who have
chapped lips is that they lick them.
This is the worst possible thing you can
do! You mouth contains saliva, everytime
you lick your lips you but saliva all over
them. This salaiva contains tons of
digestive enzymes that literally eat away
at your lips. So next time you want to
lick your lips, put lip chap on them and
dont.
Another thing that might contribute is
stress, you said you were at a funeral, if
you find yourself very stressed then try
some relaxation methods. Try sitting in
a dead quiet room, make sure you are
comfortable and warm, even sweating.
Have a glass of ice cold water beside you,
sit on a pillow on the floor, cross your
legs, close your eyes, and try your best
to focus on your breathing. Deep long
slow breath in, followed by a deep long
slow breath out. Careful not the hyper
ventilate. After about 5 mins or so of
complete focus on your breathing, drink
your glass of water. If you really want,
you can splash it on your head, lol it
sounds crazy, but you might enjoy it.
Hi,,,i have the same problem, although
mine was more deliberate. I scrubbed my
lips raw and the skin peeled off..Ouch!...
Well in your case im not sure what the
problem is, but to rectify the damage
already caused, apply a generous covering
of lansinoh lanolin on your lips. Do not
wash it off until your lips have
completely healed, this may take a few
weeks... As no scab will form over the
cuts, the skin heals itself under the
lanolin layer....Moist wound healing...
Where to buy?.... Most pharmacies...Its a
breast cream, but dont let that discourage
you... Hope it heals..It will with this
stuff!
