Bled After Sex - Please Answer Posted: 10-10-05 17:00pm
Noticed very light pink mixed in with my
secretions and slight discomfort after I
went to bathroom this morning a few hours
after sex. I've been to the bathroom
several times since this morning and both
symptoms had gone away. It only happened
the first time I used the bathroom.
What could this be?
I had sex on oct 2nd and on friday, oct.
7th with no problems. Prior to oct. 2nd,
my husband and I had not had sex since
around august 23rd (about 6 weeks or
so).
I am 32 y/o and very overweight. I had a
pap smear on 9/13/05 (my first one in many
years) and it came back ascus (atypical
squamous cells of undetermined
significance). My nurse practitioner did
not seem concerned about this result. She
told me to schedule a repeat pap in 4-6
months. I have not told her about the
episode this morning.
During my annual, I also tested negative
for gonorrhea and chlamydia so I know it's
not that.
If it were a cervical polyp, wouldn't she
have seen that during the speculum exam?
I'm just trying to figure this out.
Should I press for a pap smear sooner?
I have never in my life had bleeding after
sex and pray I never do again.
Any replies are appreciated.
I wouldn't go from ascus to something
serious so soon, would i?
Thanks and god bless.
Thanks in advance for your help.

I, too, have had ascus. They also told
me to wait 4-6 months before having
another pap smear done but I went ahead
and got a second opinion from another Dr.
After about 3 abnormal paps, they finally
figured out that I had hpv (human
papilloma virus). I had to have biopsies
taken from my cervix (6 to be exact) and
they all came back non-cancerous.
Scientists use to think that hpv was kinda
like herpes, where once you get it you
will have it for the rest of your life.
But, now they've discovered that it can be
cleared up without the chances of it
occuring again. It went away on it's
own. This was about 3 years ago and I
have had nothing but normal paps ever
since.
I've always heard that ascus moves very
slow, which is why they're usually not in
a big hurry to take care of it. I'm sure
you're fine. May want to get a second
opinion, though, just to be on the safe
side.
