I am 33 years old and try to restrict my
drinking to 1 to 3 drinks a night, which
for the most part I am successful at. I
always wonder if I am doing things that
are healthy for me, so I eat right (3
meals a day) and exercise moderately. I
have annual physicals and have always
gotten good results. Recently I had a
full check up and blood work done for a
life insurance policy and was listed as
"preferred" and given a rate break. My
paranoia stems from a slight pain in my
lower right quadrant of my stomach / side
and the fact that my father has diabetes
and cirrhosis.
I just noticed the pain recently and it
has persisted for over a week. If I
probe in the area with my fingers, there
is never any sharp pains. I suffer from
back pain and wonder if this is a result
of those problems. My blood pressure,
pulse, urine and stools all seem fine. I
am neither over weight or a smoker. I
run my own business, so stress is a
constant as well as having two small
children.
Would yearly physicals and also a recent
exam for life insurance indicate any
alcohol related abnormalities? Having
gone through what my father went through,
I cannot help to dwell on this.

That might greatly depend on whether or
not you informed your doctor that
addiction runs in your family, and if he
knows that you may have a drinking
problem. If he is informed of this
hereditary disease that runs in your
family, he may be able to look at specific
ailments that you may be experiencing and
be able to point out any hazards that may
be present.
