I just wondered if anyone has tried the
new pill yasmin. I had been on triphasal
28 for about 7 years and just switched
less than 2 weeks ago. My doc said that
it may help with loosing weight. I just
wonder if anyone else has used it and what
they thought about it. Any reply would
be appreciated. Thank you!

I have been on yasmin since august 2004 (
about 4 months) and have experienced a 5
lb weight gain and mild depression. I
have tried desogen as well, but that made
me cry often, so I asked my dr about
yasmin, because I heard it has a diuretic
in it which would be beneficial to me ( I
compete in fitness competitions and at
certain times in the year, must be
extremely lean), so I figured the diuretic
would ward off unwanted water weight.
I must admit however, that I have a
pre-existing thyroid condition of which I
take synthetic hormones for. So...It
could be that the gain was from my thyroid
( of which my tsh-thyroid stimulating
hormone- levels have been off since
beginning yasmin) or some combination of
the two.
Each person is different. I am off of
yasmin for a 3 month trial to see if my
depression ( I am seeing a psych too) and
tsh levels even out. If they do even out,
we know the culprit was the bcp, if they
don't well, I would definitely go back on
yasmin ( I loved knowing when my period
was coming..Like clockwork) and combat
whatever has caused my depression and
mismanaged tsh levels.
I say talk to your doc, discuss your fears
and any past history of health conditions
that could interact with the bcps.

I've been on yasmin for almost a year now.
I haven't had any problems. I haven't
gained or lost weight. It took about two
months for me to adjust to yasmin but
after that everything is fine. I used to
be incredibly irregular...My periods were
always unpredictable and now I know
exactly when it will come and when it will
end.
I do have a question for anyone out there
that is on yasmin. I've always taken a
week off from the pills to have my period
but I want to skip my period this month.
Has anyone had any luck doing that on
yasmin? The only thing i'm worried about
is messing up my system and having an
extra long or annoying period or break
through bleeding.

Skipping Period On Yasmin Reply Posted: 12-16-04 21:08pm
I skipped my period on yasmin last month
and had no problems this month.
Everything was right on time..I am worried
about next month, as I just went off
yasmin for a 3 month trial period to see
if that was what is affecting my tsh
levels ( thyroid). To skip you just dont
take the sugar pills, you start a new pack
right after ending the previous one. I
had no terrible side effects due to
skipping. Good luck!

Skipping Period On Yasmin Posted: 01-14-08 12:24pm
I skipped my period for vacation a couple
of years ago. I have been on Yasmin for
about 3 years and skipped my period by
skipping the white "reminder" pills and
just starting a new pack. Afterwards, I
got a yeast infection. I'm assuming this
was because my body had really high levels
of estrogen in it from not taking a
"break" from the birth control (usually
there's one week of white "reminder"
pills). Has anyone else had this
experience? I need to skip my period
again at any cost for an upcoming trip in
a couple weeks, and I'm really hoping I
won't need to deal with a yeast infection
afterwards! Please respond if you have
any information about this- thank you.

I have to say, I've never heard of ANY
pill causing weight loss, only gain.
Unless they make someone really nauseous
lol.
Perhaps it just wouldn't make you gain
weight as much as other pills.

I've been on Yasmin for a year now and
have skipped a period. The only side
effect was some spotting during the first
few days I would have normally started my
period... Nothing serious however.
I was wondering if anyone knows whether or
not I can skip a period a couple of times
a year? I have heard different answers
from different pharmicists: some have
stated that there is no need for a break
and others have told me that it would mess
up my hormonal levels... Has anyone
skipped a few periods on Yas?

You can skip your period, it won't hurt
you in any way.
The only problem you might experience is
breakthrough bleeding (like you said). I
haven't done it on Yaz, but I have on
other pills.

yasmin doesnt make yu put on weight
the pill can change yur appetite. so yu
can end up eating more and not realising
and then.. put on weight. so if yu keep
eating how yu did before nothing shud
change
and i skip 3 periods then hav 1 on yasmin
and do this all the time and NEVER had any
sort of problem at all.

I was on Yasmin for 4 years (I was on
Dianette for 6 years before that). I did
not notice any weight loss/gain while
taking it, my periods were lighter so I
was quite happy taking it, although I did
suffer with depression while I was on
Yasmin but never thought til sbgymnast
said that it may have been linked to
Yasmin so thanks for suggesting that I
shall look into it!
Severall times on Yasmin I missed my
'break' and just started a new pack
straight away causing me to miss a period,
this caused me no problems at all.
However, I am now waiting for my
appointment to have my implant fitted as I
fell pregnant last year while taking
Yasmin and now have a beautiful baby boy
(9 weeks old) and simply cannot afford to
fall pregnant again.
