Will breast feeding really help me to loose the ' extra' weight I gain during pregnancy. With my first son the weight just fell off but I am worried with this one the extra 20 pounds I already put on won't go away due to genetics and second children.

Breastfeeding stalled my weight loss efforts. I hear that for some reason, in some women, your body hangs onto extra fat stores as 'insurance' to make sure you can keep producing milk even if you don't eat enough. But, I noticed if I restricted my calories too much, my milk production dropped off too.

It Works
With my first child, I didn't breastfeed, and I lost the weight in about 3 months, without even trying. With my second baby, only a year later, I breastfed and was almost completely back to my original weight in a month. It also helped with all of the postpartum stuff, like I didn't bleed as much while breastfeeding. And, even better, didn't start my period back for 10 months. If I ever have another baby, I will definetly breastfeed. I saw major differences in myself and major differences between my children.

Breast Feeding
I am on my third pregnancy. I'm at 13 weeks right now. I breast fed my oldest for one year and I had a hard time keeping weight on. I lost so much weight I was 100 pounds when I was through and ate ice cream daily! My second pregnancy was with twins. I gained so much more weight as you do with twins and lost all of it within a few short months. I breast fed both. Plus the bond you share with your baby is incredible. Breast feeding just makes me feel so powerful. I made the child with my body, I grew the child with my body, then I nourish the child with my body. It's amazing!

I breastfed my son. I gained 80 pounds while pregnant and 3 months after having him, I was back into a size 5. 5 months after, back down to a size one. I don't know if the weight loss is attributed to breastfeeding or just luck.
I do know that breastfeeding burns a lot of calories that otherwise would not be burned. And I also know that breastfeeding causes the uterus to contract and shrink back to its normal size faster than nonbreastfeeding mothers.
Good luck whatever your decision!

I Wish
I gained a crazy amount of weight during my pregnacy
9again) first baby I only breastfed for 4 weeks- it took me about 9 months to get back to a resonable weight.
My second baby is two months old and I am still breastfeeding her.
I was losing weiht quite quickly in the beginning- I was watchiing my diet though- over christmas I didn't restrict myself- and while I didn't gain any weight- I didn't lose any at all either.
I'm back to watching what I eat, and losing it slowly again.
I don't think it really makes much difference, to be honest, not as much difference as diet makes.I haven't been able to excersize much at all .
I think you'd get the same results with some brisk walking.

My wife was back into her pre-prego clothes in 3 weeks after birth. She lost all of her baby weight and then some. Breastfeeding is an amazing thing.

I would never have believed it for a second but it is the truth as far aas I am concerned.

Make sure to continue with your daily vitamin regemine as well. You will need the extra vitamins because the little one will be draining you just like they were still in the womb. :)
