Support For Young Women With Depression
Posted: 10-12-05 20:07pm

Hey,

so i'm 20 years old and have had depression for about six months now. I was diagnosed with medium depression (doesn't feel so damn medium:) for about two months now. I'm on anti depressant medication and I go to my councilor once a week. There is far more to my story but this post isn't meant to be about me.

I'd like to see how much interest there would be in me starting a support thread/forum/topic for young women with depression. I know this sounds kindof like an exclusive thing to do and I really don't mean it in a negative way to women who are older or younger, not in their twenties or are men. It's just that i've noticed a lack of support for this particluar age group on the internet, which seems really stupid since statisticly this group is meant to be one of the highest effected by depression.

I would really like to know how many people are interested in this idea, and it would be great to just talk to some women my age with similar problems.

Thanks alot. (a yes or a no on the poll would be fine if you don't want to comment.)

Ask google:
results 1 - 10 of about 26,800 for "women with depression".
Results 1 - 10 of about 13,200 for "men with depression"

guys are already ignored when it comes to mental health issues. Why propagate the stereotype? Would you allow a "white women with depression" forum? I don't think it's good to cater to such a demographic.

i hardly call that ignoring the fact that men also have problems with depression. However I have looked on the internet for websites with helpful forums for young women with depression and haven't been able to find any. I realise there are lots of google hits for "women with depression" but that doesn't mean that they are good quality forums, that is just a word hit, and I wasn't just talking about having it for women, I meant women in their 20's.

You may not realise but I find it hard to identify with someone who is is in his 40's and has children, or a girl who is 16 with depression. The only thing we have in common is depression. I just wanted to help some young women like me find a place where they felt comfortable speaking about their personal problems with women their own age.

Feel free to create a forum for men with depression, i'm not ignoring that men also have depression, i'm just concentrating on part of the population that seems to be very commonly effected by depression also. Anyone who doesn't agree with the forum (including women in their 20's) can stay in this forum and be perfectly happy with that. I however, would like the company of people I have more in common with. Including the fact that there are issues that young women have that men and older or younger women don't have to deal with when they have depression.

It wasn't a personal attack on you.
