Question Concerning Allergy Tests
Posted: 10-13-05 18:05pm

I've never personally had any form of allergy test, but I have heard from others that a "wide-spectrum" allergy test, i.E. The one where they test for many possible allergens simultaneously, is extremely painful occasionally, especially if an allergen is found.

My little brother might soon be subjected to one that is totally unnecessary (well, 99% unnecessary), and if it's as painful as I heard, I intend to prevent it. However, my information is all old (it's been since middle school) and is nothing but uneducated hearsay. Can I get some opinions from people who've had these kinds of test of the amount of pain involved?

My only bump, I swear :/

just to clarify, the test i'm talking about is the one that involves many small needles puncturing the skin. I don't know if the allergens are injected that way or introduced on top of the punctures, but it's used to test for many possible allergens at once.

I only want an opinion as to the severity of pain from the test. While I admit it would be useful to know exactly what he's reacting to that was mistaken for asthma, I do not intend to allow my little brother to endure a painful test to determine which allergen was causing the problem now that there is no problem (after moving, his "asthma" disappeared, although asthma treatments had no effect). It just isn't necessary.

Thanks :d
